“Great Place to Stay. Huge 2 bedroom 2 bath Units”

We stayed at Fox Run,Rumbling Bald Resort, for a week. The unit was a large 2 bedroom 2 bath with fireplace. The resort did an excellent job of locating the units in the woods. Trees all around us and we seemed alone although there were other units within a few hundred feet. Two wood decks to enjoy with 4 deer right outside our unit one morning. We had four units in our little complex, two on each side side of the parking area. Three of the 4 units were occupied. We did not hear a sound from the adjoining 2/2 unit sharing one wall with ours the entire week. Great soundproofing. The furniture was nice and the unit clean. Flat screen tv's in living room and bedroom. Huge master bedroom with King bed down stairs and huge bathroom with shower and large jet tub.The other large bedroom on main level with two queens and adjoining bathroom. The fall colors were at peak and we loved the great views. Very comfortable and we felt safe and secure. We walked 1 mile to the golf clubhouse each morning to go online and enjoy a breakfast. There is a small deli type restaurant at the golf course and a larger restaurant accross the street with views of Lake Lure. Prices are fair and about standard for the area. Figure $13.00 for a lunch sandwhich including a drink per person, Dinner about $18.00. The resort is gated with full security. We aren't golfers but there is a course there and many people were enjoying the game every day. The fall colors and views from the golf course are spectacular. There is a little family bar in the golf clubhouse with an outside deck. There are several pools but we didn't use them. There is a tennis court, put put golf, spa, marina. The units are fully equiped and we bought some food at Ingles store which is about 4 miles from the resort and is very nice with a full bakery and deli. Lunch or dinner at Larkins Restaurant on Lake Lure is a must! Great views of the lake from their outdoor deck. Ok I saw the review for the bugs and mice so was looking everywhere for them. Only saw a couple of flies outside. No mice at all. I would have rated FOX RUN excellent but for the fact there is no internet wifi except at the restaurants. You can't even buy it from ATT for the week. We heard others staying there complain about the lack of WIFI as well. For those who need or like to stay connected this is not the place for you. We also read the 90 page manual that was left with the DVD player but could not figure out how to play the DVD movie. It wasn't auto. Sure would have been nice to have simple directions. Discovered if the DVD player was turned on the TV picture was much better even though we couldn't play a movie. The other issue we had is that they don't allow you to burn wood in the woodburning fireplaces. We never could find out why not. You have to buy fake compressed packaged logs at $5.00 each at Ingles grocery store. They only burn for a couple of hours and are out. Disappointing! Everyone seemed happy and very friendly at the resort. We spent a lot of time waving. The registration area is about three miles from the Rumbling Bald Resort. The check in personnel will give you a map and all of them seemed lost when I asked for a GPS address. For registration, where you go to pick up your keys, it is 180 Herman Wilson Road Lake lure. For Rumbling Bald Resort where Fox Run is actually located just type in 200 fox run Blvd Lake Lure when you leave the registration bldg. That will take you right to the manned security gate and then up to the housing units where you can easily find the unit assigned to you. You will enjoy your stay. There is even a well equiped fitness center

“A great week at Fox Run”

My wife and I spent a very pleasant week at Lake Lure and Fox Run. We were very impressed with the unit we had (2 br.) and it's environment. We had friends join us for the last 3 nights, and they were also impressed. While there are some things that could be updated, we didn't feel at all like we were "back in the 70's". Our only regret was that it wasn't really warm enough to have coffee out on our two wooded decks. The staff was great, both VRI staff and Rumbling Bald staff. We didn't realize that the Fox Run units are actually in the Rumbling Bald Resort. We did use the indoor pool and hot tub, and took the Lake Lure cruise (highly recommended). We climbed Chimney Rock and hiked the Donald Ross Nature Trail. We did get to Asheville for three different days. It is a bit of a trek to get there, but we found a great back way that took about 15 minutes off the slow, windy trip. We ate three times at Larkins/Bayfront Grill..loved it. Our first time in the North Carolina mountains, and we loved it.

“Relaxing!”

We were diverted from the east coast by Hurricane Irene on our way there. Wyndham suggested we stay here since we were close by. We were not disappointed. Because of this situation, we did have to change units after 4 days which served only to reinforce that this was a great place to stay. Both units were very nice. One thing we really liked about them was the way the architects had used nature as decor. Even though the units overlook a gulf course (and we are not golfers), there was enough natural beauty in the surrounding wooded area to make up for it. In the living/dining area of the first unit, three sides had patio door sized windows in the tree tops. Lovely. Would have included a picture but we were in them. But have included other pictures. Both units were 2 story with living area, kitchen, bath, and double bed room up and master bedroom and bath down. The full kitchen was well stocked with table serving and cooking utensils. The master bedroom had its own deck. There were 2 decks in each unit. The second upper deck had a gorgeous view of the lake and mountains. The other was in the treetops so we could watch deer roaming below. There were only 3 things we did not like. First, the presentation of the second unit was not so good. There was a huge spill stain in the foyer and the outside windows had lots of cobwebs over them. Second, there was no wifi. One had to go to the activity center to use a computer. The walk was beautiful so we really didn't mind, we're just so used to having internet access at our fingertips while we travel. Third, there was a charge for putt putt golf - $5 per person. Speaking of that, if you like to be at a resort where there is lots to do, this is not the one for you. We thought we would be bored, but we were not. The lake and beach is small, there was a tennis court, cornhole game, putt-putt, and that was it. It is on a golf course and the price was reasonable at certain times. There were boat rides on a pontoon that was infomative and beautiful at sunset. But It was very relaxing.

“Great Getaway”

Not sure why the other reviewers' experience was so bad, but we just recently returned from a 4 day, 3 night stay at Fox Run and had a blast. We had a large group of family and friends with us and the two units we occupied were perfect for a group of our size. Lake Lure is beautiful and the units are in a nice quiet, mountainous setting with privacy. We didn't see any mice ---- yes, there were a few bugs, but this is the mountains --- what else would you expect amongst the trees and tranquility of nature? This trip and the accommodations are definitely worth revisiting.

“Great stay -- would return without hesitation”

Just returned from several days at Fox Run; stayed in units listed in Wyndham’s inventory but managed by VRI. Arrived late Thursday night and stayed until Sunday. Reserved two units for 12 people but could not occupy second unit until Friday, so all 12 of us stayed COMFORTABLY in the first unit on Thursday night. Master bedroom on lower level was large enough to put a queen size inflatable mattress IN walk-in closet AND double size inflatable mattress at the foot of the king size bed. Two queen size beds in entry level bedroom and a pull-out sofa on upper level living room made this place ample for our group.
The units (FR0057 and FR0061) and the resort were among the nicest we’ve stayed in – and we’ve stayed in A LOT – all over the country and the Caribbean. The staff was wonderful – especially Monica – and tolerated us calling every few days leading up to our arrival to ask questions about things we read in the reviews or about moving around the reservations and unit locations for our convenience.
We are so glad we took the negative reviews with a grain of salt. There were NO mouse incidents and yes, we saw a bug or two but NOTHING that made us squeamish or disgusted. It is a beautiful and woodsy area and we saw nothing that would be unexpected in that environment. The beach, pool, sauna, and spa are ALL great. We don't golf but the courses looked inviting. Be sure to take the Lake Lure cruise – Big Jim is DELIGHTFUL and the cruise is worth far more than the $15 per person charge.

Room Tip: We loved our two units FR0057 and FR0061 -- 3 levels (split), several decks, and view of trees and w...
