The good:
The owners remodeled a standard size hotel room and gave it class and pizzaz with lots of mirrors, the huge jacuzzzi tub, leather sofa and home entertainment center. Everything worked fthough the jets in the hot tub were not real strong,,it did fill quickly. The oversized balcony offers plenty of room to stretch. The view of the ocean and access is great. The morning basket offers plenty of healthy food to hold you over till lunch. A nice added touch were the dimmer switches on all the lights, added to the romantic mood. If you have an Ipod, bring it, you can plug it in to the radio. The grounds were clean and pretty. We enjoyed taking the bikes down to the Pleasure Island Seafood, jazz, and blues festival. October 8-10 was a great time to come, weather was perfect. The pier is a short walking distance and we had dinner at Freddie's, which was awesome and some of the best on the island. The Fort Fisher Ferry ($5) was only a few minutes away, and you can then hop the South Port Ferry ($30) over to Bald Head Island. Highly recommend renting a golf cart there for 2 hours, and then have lunch at Eb and Flows.
The Not so Good:
This is not a complaint but it did feel a little cramped and would have been nicer if the room was a little larger. There is no stove, oven, but the mic, toaster and mini-frig were sufficient. The AC took a while to cool the room down, unlike a typical AC in a hotel, but it was OK. Most hotels of this price have the newer large flat screen TVs. The DVD player would not allow for chapter searching. Carpet looks a little aged but OK. Bring your own beach chairs and an embrella and if you like biking much, bring those too.
The nightly rate was increased signficantly because of the Seafood Jazz festival. Seemed a little too much. Normal rate may be OK.
Overall we had a great time and I would stay here over other comparable priced hotels given the added features, privacy, comfort, proximity to everything, and distance from where we live.
