“A reliable choice in Kitty Hawk.”

My husband & I stayed at this hotel several years ago and found it to be a clean, convenient choice for a quick stay. So, when we found ourselves needing an overnight stop in Kitty Hawk with our 2 young kids this June, we automatically chose the HIExpress. We were not disappointed.

On the day of our stay, we arrived early (before noon) and were greeted warmly and told a room would be available in 30 minutes. We came back after lunch to a clean, comfortable room. We did not use the pool, but we did walk across the street to the beach access. The room was quiet and we had no problems sleeping. Breakfast the next morning exceeded our expectations, with a variety of hot & cold options regularly replenished. I was also thankful for plenty of seating, always a concern at a complimentary breakfast.

HIExpress in Kitty Hawk will always be our first choice for stays in this area.

“Kitty Hawk Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

Stayed at this property only 3 days after Hurricane Irene hit the east coast. As you can imagine the hotel was booked due to many residence not being able to get back to their properties. Based on the age of the Hotel (which I don't know the exact age) and the hotels proximity to the beach, the hotel is in good condition. Hotels generally this close to the water usually wear and tear quicker. The rooms while not large were clean. My room had two double beds which were not the most comfortable initially, however I slept fine. Small fridge and microwave in room. Flat screen tv with a good selection of channels. Check in was fast and efficient considering the hotel was completely full. Hotel is really not set up for extended stays....ie more than a few days. The continental breakfast was good as these type of breakfast go. If you want to have some sort of ocean view, would need to have a room on the backside of hotel and on the 2nd floor. Based on time of year and due to recent event, cannont really rate the value, was just glad to get a room. But normally the value for the room rate I would say is average.

“Mixed experience”

My husband and two of our daughters just stayed here for 4 nights to attend a friend's wedding. To start with the pros, very sweet, helpful courteous staff, very clean accomodations. The less than positive aspects...to get to our non-smoking room we had to endure a very heavy smoke filled corridor. The room was adequte but the air conditioner was either freezing or off. Double beds with soft mattresses were less than ideal. The outdoor pool appeared larger in the photo and the location across the parking lot in the front of the hotel dispelled any illusion you were at a resort. The beach was not the easy stroll I expected; if you were toting umbrellas, coolers or kids it was a bit of a hike. Breakfast was included but when kids won't eat the food it's not a good sign. The coffee (both in room and at the breakfast bar) was so weak my husband made daily Starbucks runs; the orange juice was just as watered down. Daily fruit consisted only of unripe bananas. The saddest was that if you came down as late as 9:15 ( breakfast was served until 9:30) you ran the risk of half the buffet needing to be replenished. I'm glad they had rooms for us when we decided to make the trip without much forewarning, but at $162 for a non-refundable rate, I hope I have a chance to go somewhere else next time.

“Great staff, excellent location, rooms need some updating”

I arrived at night and really had no idea about the beauty of this area. I certainly found out the next day.

This is a Holiday Inn Express that excels on customer service. This can make or break a vacation. Very pleasant front desk staff, they knew I was arriving very late (11 pm) and had already taken care of a late check-out for me by the time I arrived (I might have requested same on my internet reservation). My room was number 123 and it was clean. (There is a rather large stain on the curtain that someone should take care of.) And the washroom sink is not actually in the washroom but across from it, which is odd. A/C worked well, WIFI included. The Wright brothers memorial is within 5 minutes drive, as is plenty of shopping.

I would stay here again - and the main reason is because the beach is immediately accessible. Parking down the road toward Avalon pier is tricky because there isn't ample parking (best parking if you don't walk from the hotel is immediately north of Avalon pier in a free public parking place).

The hotel itself is clean, and the breakfast area more than adequate. I've stayed in a number of HIX and they feature the same breakfasts, included in the rate: cereals, eggs (sometimes scramble, sometimes omelette), bacon, sausage and biscuits, a limited fruit selection (often bananas), yogurt, coffee...and a do-it-yourself pancake maker.

A very good property.
