“Dumpy hotel by the ocean”

Hotel was affected by hurricane season in 2011, there is a lot of musty smelling carpets in common areas. It is undergoing renovation now, so there is also smell of paint in many areas and many painters in dirty clothes roaming around the hotel and in the only one available elevator. Hotel is very dated. If you get renovated room, bathrooms are totally new, new shower and granite top sinks and clean tiles on the floor. Rooms have newly painted walls, wear out mattresses on the bed significant depression in the middle and you can feel springs. It feels that those are the cheapest mattress one can buy probably 10 years old now. Carpet in the room looked dirty and smelly. Bedsheets clean. Staff very polite and helpful. They provide breakfast but of poor quality, scrambled eggs were runny, bread/bagel not fresh, waffle tasted like glue, too much flour probably in it, and coffee weak. If you are on the budget, and need to spend one night on the way it is OK but I would not go there for vacation or weekend.

“Being renovated, our room was great,”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

I read some of the negative reviews that said the hotel was dated but the price was right. I prepared my wife for an older hotel. We checked in and were surprised how nice was. New bathroom fixtures, granite counter tops, new beds, small refrigerator and microwave, nice furniture, a table with two chairs, new carpet, a great breakfast, very nice people and is right on the ocean with direct beach access. I couldn't believe how different it was from some of the reviews. I mentioned to the front desk staff that their reviews were not the greatest. They told me they were renovating the hotel, The ground floor (where we were) rooms were done last winter. This winter they plan to update the second floor. So for now I'd ask for ground floor. One thing the staff complained about was once a bad review is posted it stays there forever even if you correct things based on those reviews, something to think about.

Room Tip: Try Awful Arthur's restaurant. Turn right out of the parking lot, go two miles, it's on the...

“Comfort perhaps not Quality Standard”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

Checked in on October 7, and was a bit disappointed with the room. It was clean, however, very outdated and a bit worn out. The breakfast, although free was again not what I would expect in a Quality Inn. On a positive note, the location and staff were excellent but would probably pay a bit more for a nicer place next time.

“Don't rent Balley Hai in Kill Devil Hills”

The house had no lock that kept kids from going outside to the pool and I had a three year old child in the house! The owner took three days to repair it and then had the nerve to keep my security deposit for made up reasons. The backyard is unusable and is littered with sea urchins. Go elsewhere.

“Great hotel on the Outer Banks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We recently stayed at the Quality Inn Carolina Oceanfront as we couldn’t get to our original hotel on Cape Hatteras because of Hurricane Irene. This was a great back-up hotel. We had booked a normal non-oceanfront room, which is a good deal if you are on a budget. We paid to upgrade to an oceanfront room with balcony. It was a lot more expensive but the view and balcony was worth it for me. Make sure that if you book an oceanfront room you request a 3rd floor room as the view would be block by the gigantic dune in front of the 2nd and 1st floor rooms. The room was kind of small but it was clean. It had a mild mildew odor which could be the result of the recent hurricane. We also had a small fridge. The beds were very comfy. The pool is small but nice. Access to the beach was easy and the beach was excellent. They had the standard breakfast, nothing too fancy. The wireless internet had a weak signal which was annoying. The hotel is located a block or so off the main road so there wasn’t much traffic noise. The location was close to many restaurants and other activities. You can see the Wright Brothers National Memorial from the hotel. It is also close to the start of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Fort Raleigh National Historic Site.

Room Tip: As for 3rd floor room
