We stayed here the week before Labor Day, 2010 and I can't say enough about what a great value for the money these condos are. With 2 young children it's not easy to stay in a small, 1 bedroom hotel room with 2 double beds when it comes to nap time, etc. Having separate bedrooms, a living area and a kitchen was HUGE. For the same price as an oceanfront room, you just can't beat it. The pool area was so perfect for the little ones and adults alike. There is just no need for an oceanfront room while visiting the Outerbanks as the ocean isn't far no matter where you are. There are so many public parking places/beach access points it's super easy to get to the beach. I read many of the reviews prior to booking here and booked knowing full well the rented units had the high school track & field/football field right in the back yard. This actually turned out to be very fun and entertaining (as other guests thought) - we heard the marching band practicing 2 nights and it was great! They were pretty good and my kids danced around on the deck while eating their supper. We also saw a football game and my husband LOVED sitting on the deck with a beer watching it. When it was time for bed though, all you had to do is close the sliding door and you didn't hear a thing.
The only negative things I noticed were that the grounds aren't very well kept and you could tell it was the "end of the season". The sheets were clean **NO BED BUGS**, the bathrooms very clean, floors clean, etc. but the kitchen cabinets & refrigerator could have used a serious scrub down ( I'm pretty particular about that sort of thing so I noticed) and pretty much all of the deck chairs were broken. The beds/mattresses and comforters were seriously lacking as well but we still slept okay. Our garage door also didn't work & as other guests noticed, there aren't any curtains on the top floor where the living area and kitchen are. These things, however, did not put a damper on our experience, we were still extremely satisfied with our stay. And we were treated very well by everyone involved in our stay there as well. Also, as an added bonus and a huge THANK YOU to Kees Vacation Rentals: we were there when hurricane Earl decided to make an appearance and were madatory evacuated a day early. Though we had not purchased travel insurance, the wonderful people of Kees kindly refunded us for the night we didn't get to stay there even though they did not have to. When/if we ever get back to KDH we won't hesitate to book at Cambridge Cove again. :)
