To start off, this is a great place to stay; it has all the necessary amenities, it is located right on the beach, there is a pool and laundry facilities. Overall, it is good; however a few things could be fixed. I found blood stains on the sheets and when we went to cook dinner, we found that most of the dishes had a strange chemical smell and some of the pots and pans were not well cleaned (they had food crust on them.) Nothing a quick run in the dishwasher didn't fix. The whole building is clearly older, along with the appliances and decor, but if you can get past that, the proximity to the beach, the pool, the oceanfront rooms and the value compensate for a bit of grime here and there. Definitely rent here, just bring your own set of sheets.

We just came back from a family vacation to Kill Devil Hills and stayed at the Golden Strand. While the decor is very dated, it was clean and right on the beach. We had a great view of the ocean with a balcony, 2 bedrooms and a full kitchen. We could walk out to the beach every day and best of all, it was very quiet. No loud neighbors to deal with. When we reeturn ot the Outer Banks, this is where we will stay. The pool was not overused but was very clean. Great place to get a break from the beach.

We have a 3rd floor, 3-bedroom unit as a timeshare, one week a year, in the summer. The amenities are as described by stevenshawnt, with the addition of a 3rd bedroom with twin beds. The unit is always perfectly clean; one of my favorite moments of each year is stepping into the unit on the first day. Our children have grown up visiting each year. I haven't had any issue with the desk staff or the lifeguards on the beach. We love it and now as our family starts to grow with the next generation, we may be looking to rent an additional unit for the same week as our timeshare. I do like to bring my own pillow, but no complaints otherwise on the furnishings.

We just returned from the Golden Strand yesterday. It is a very nice little resort with a slightly rustic beach-look to it. The resort is pretty well-maintained with really nice rooms. We had a 2 bedroom condo with a beach decor theme. There was a fully-equipped kitchen. The living area had a hide-away bed. The one bedroom had 2 twin beds with no TV. The master bedroom had a TV, private bathroom, and a queen bed. There was another bathroom off the living area. There was a TV in the living area. A breakfast bar and a dining room table made meals an easy access. The resort had a very nice pool. The resort was also right on the beach. Most rooms seemed to have a full to partial ocean view which was great. The ocean was beautiful although more time to cleaning up the beach in front of the resort should be done. Life guards were very rude. We were flying a kite on the beach. When the kite came down on lifeguard threw the string while the other one ran over the string with an ATV with no apologies. The location is near everything you would want to do in the Kill Devil Hills area. Check-in and check-out were easy, but the desk staff acted as though they did not want to be bothered with making us feel welcome. Overall, we would recommend this resort.
