“Best Western - Jonesville, NC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

We stayed in this hotel one night because we needed a pet friendly hotel in this area. Check-in was great, we received a "goody bag" of snacks and our dog received a treat. This is now a smoke-free facility but you could smell stale smoke in the hallway, although our room did not smell at all. We chose a whirlpool suite with a refrigerator and microwave as we always have food and drinks with us and need a refrigerator. The room was very clean. A little old but in mostly good repair. The whirlpool tub was huge and a great relief to road weary travelers. The hotel is very close to the highway and you can hear road noise, although with the HVAC fan on we did not hear the road. The HVAC fan is a little loud but I've heard worse, and it actually helped. Sometimes if our dog can hear other people he won't settle down; he slept great for the first time in a hotel! The bathroom was spotless, my only complaint was that there were only 2 bath towels. As a rule there should always be at least 3 (ladies, we all need one for our hair, right?) I thought 2 was kind of odd especially for a whirlpool suite, but the towels were very decent for hotel towels. The bed was a little hard for me but not a bad hotel bed. It was king size so all "three" of us fit (we always bring a blanket to cover the bed when we travel with our dog). The only other issue was the "glowing" clock radio, but you could cover it with a towel. Good parking, pretty good areas for walking the dog. We did not check out the pool. There is a Cracker Barrell restaurant next door. We ordered pizza from a local place and it was good and delivered quickly. All in all this place was a good surprise and we really appreciate them allowing dogs. I've never been disturbed by a dog in a hotel, but I've often been disturbed by people, so I encourage all hotels to consider allowing dogs. As a rule, folks who travel with their dogs are very conscientious. There were four or five other dogs staying the same night and we never heard a peep out of them.

Room Tip: The whirlpool tubs are great!

“Half way point.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

This was our half way point to stop before heading home the next day. The hotel was wonderful and clean and the pool was so refreshing after a 12 hour drive. Front desk even gave us a bag of snacks which we took on the road the next day. We tried to get a wine opener from the lobby but it was misplaced, so my husband drove to town to buy one. Not finding one, he asked the grocery clerk where the wine was to buy a bottle with a screw top and found out that the town of Jonesville does not sell alcohol. He did find an opener after all. The hotel offers a free hot breakfast and it was very good with plenty of choice. The Cracker Barrel is next door and is a great place to eat and even more fun to shop at. The people in the hotel, restaurants and everywhere else we went in the town are so nice, our stay was great.

“Okay little stay to break up our long drive.”

This is pretty much half way home from Hilton Head for us, so we booked a room through Priceline. It's a safe, quiet area, and Best Western has updated this property, as evidenced by the old lobby next door, which is still undergoing renovations. It has a pool which looks okay, even though we decided not to use it. There is no jacuzzi. The hallways are clean and well kept. The room is fairly clean, although the tub/shower area was lacking. (Black around places which should be white and the showerhead looks like it needs a good soak in some CLR or vinegar. There's a slightly musty smell to the room. The bed is super-firm, so if you need soft bring something. The refrigerator in the room is larger than the standard hotel room size. More like what you'll find in a room with a mini-kitchen area. There is a standard coffee maker in the bathroom. The furnishings all seem fairly new, including a flat screen television with what seems to be regular Time Warner Cable. Better than the very limited channels available the pricier hotels. Desk with a pretty nice desk chair and another comfy chair with ottoman are also included in the room. Iron and ironing board are in the closet, as well.

Breakfast started promptly at 6:30. I was up (and ready) since 4:30 and when I went to the breakfast area at 6:34 it was already full of a dozen or more people. There are eggs and sausage patties, along with a waffle maker and bagels and bread for toasting, cereal, yogurt of some kind, and a juice machine.

* My three star rating isn't because it's bad, it's because I think it's probably average.
