Do not know how a restaurant can make a salad be this bad....or why they would serve salads this bland and boring. It was like the salad came out of a bad and sat on the plate for a couple of hours waiting to be served.

My husband and I decided at the last moment to stay the weekend in Highlands for my birthday. We made reservations at the Main Street Inn hoping to have a unique stay. The hospitality was wonderful, we couldn't complain at all about the people (front desk and house keeping). However, the room we had was TINY! My husband is 6'4" with an athletic build and he could hardly fit in the bathroom and couldn't even get access to the closet to hang up clothes. The bed we had was a queen size, which was fine, but it needed replacing badly. I had springs popping me all night long:( We woke up (8:30) early to take advantage of the breakfast, again my birthday! Breakfast was so disappointing for a B&B. Eggs and grits with no seasoning, frozen waffles and cold undercooked bacon. For the money I feel we did not get a good value here, the owner definately needs to step up to the plate and pay attention to his property a bit better.
My husband and I decided to spend a romantic overnight in Highlands. I read through reviews of most of the Inns in Highlands and also checked out their websites. Main Street Inn had the best mid-week deal and the best location so we booked directly on their website. The Inn is right at the start of Main Street, so it was easy to walk all around this charming town. Since we were staying on a Thursday night, we were able to book a room with queen bed/ teak loveseat/ private bath for $85/night - a MUCH lower rate than any other accommodations in town (which can go as high as several hundred per night!).
Our original room was #8, a cute corner room with lots of windows. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, though the bathroom was tiny (barely enough room to turn around). We were quite happy in the room until another couple checked into the room across the hall. We could clearly hear their conversations, their tv... everything! We tapped on the Inn keeper's door and he quickly offered us room #3 which seemed quite isolated from the hallway. This room was quite a bit bigger with a beautiful bathroom (claw-foot tub + separate shower) and large closet. This room also had a king sized bed instead of the queen (hubby is > 6 feet tall, so the king was a much better option) and a balcony overlooking Main Street. He offered us this room at no extra charge!
Both rooms were spotlessly clean and we were easily able to access their wireless without incident or service interruption. It's important to note that this is an older building, so stairs are everywhere!
While we didn't eat any meals at the Inn, we were very happy with our accommodations and would recommend this Inn to anyone visiting the area. The location and price are excellent!
Faye, Linda and Jean made our second trip to Highlands to stay at the cottage at The Main Street
Inn. As before, we had a delightful time. We only got to enjoy one delicious meal at the Inn, but it
was fabulous!! The white chocolate mousse dessert was awesome!! We love Gary's hospitality, and
friendliness. The rooms are very quaint, clean and comfortable, as we each were able to have our
own room and bath on the same hallway.
This quaint inn is a favorite escape just two hours from Atlanta, the stress just melts away upon arrival. Gary is so welcoming and accomodating with dinner reservations and suggestions for fun things going on around town. The food at the inn is very good, and nothing beats relaxing in the bistro or the by the fireplace in the lobby with a nice glass of wine...ahhhh!
