“one major flaw”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2011

As others have said, this inn used to be a Travelodge--indicated by the identifying tile in the bathroom shower tile. The property has been tastefully updated. The rooms were clean, the outside areas were attractively decorated. I booked through Expedia and received a very good rate. Check in was smooth. The office staff and cleaning staff were beyond welcoming. The room was compact, but very efficiently set up. My only complaint is that the BEDS ARE HARD AS A BOX OF ROCKS! Ugh!!!! I don't mind a firm mattress, but this was like sleeping on a block of wood:-( If you are one who likes sleeping on the floor, these beds would be perfect for you. I did NOT have the issues of noise, as others have complained and overall it was a decent stay. When the owner brings in new beds, I'll gladly return.

Room Tip: Book online (Expedia)

“Rates high among competition”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2011

I was impressed with this property and the efforts made by staff and owners. Was in town for HPU graduation and rest of family was at Wingate at airport, so I had opportunity for comparison. I had every amenity Wingate offered. Although I'm sure it could be requested, Wingate didn't have iron/ironing board in room nor did they have written listing of all tv channels available. Small considerations, but I didn't have to ask - they were already there. It's an older property, so there are blemishes here and there, but again, the effort is obvious. It's CLEAN and that's the most important. They also have gorgeous container plantings throughout and provide gathering spots for continental breakfast or lounging outside with a good book. I would definitely recommend this property. (disclaimer: they were not fully booked this weekend and that may have helped my perception... but not by much!)

Room Tip: Request room away from main road

Stayed here for business one year and it was ok and the room was fine, the next year I booked ahead of time and called to double check just before leaving on my trip and they could not find my reservation so I had to cancel my trip, then my credit card bill arrives and they had charged me for the room for not showing up,the following year I call and there are no rooms available then just before market I get a call from them that I had better book soon they are almost full??? also they jam the rate during furniture market but I guess everyone does.

“A Frightening Expeirence”

What was to have been a fun shopping excursion, turned out to be a very scary situation. On the second night of my stay, I heard very loud music coming from outside the owner/managers office. This is a small motel, shaped in a horseshoe, with one drive-in entrance. There were large orange cones placed across this entrance by the office early in the evening after the party was well underweigh. A large group of unattended kids of all ages were running rampant up and down metal stairs near my room..which was located near the vending machine. They were yelling and screaming while the adults were outside in a grotto area blastiing music and in general having a very large party. Having listened to this for 2 hours (it was now 10:00PM), I called the owner and asked if he could "tone down the noise". He told me that it would last until 1:00AM. I asked if this was his party. He said it was. I remarked that I should have been told at check in. Shortly after, I went outside to take pictures of my car...which was parked near the vending machine outside my room. The owner saw me doing this and came up to me. He was carrying a drink and was clearly intoxicated. It was now 10:30PM. He told me that someone had called the police. I hadn't. However they did show up and the noise subsided for the short time they were there, but continued as soon as they left. He told me that if I didn't like it I could leave. I went inside my room and decided I would feel safer and actually BE safer if I left. I checked out at 10:50PM abd had to find another room. After my departure, I called the police to report my situation. I was concerned about my credit information being abused. I was told that they had already answered a call at the Atrium Inn . The officer took all my information. The hotel also advertises all newly redecorated rooms. I found that to be a gross misrepresentation. I would advise anyone who is thinking about checking in to this motel....to think again!

“Average Inn”

This hotel was fine. The bedding, curtains, and furniture were updated so the room looked nice. However, the bathroom, was in need of updating. The bathroom window didn't close properly, so we had to keep the cold air out of the room, by keeping the bathroom door closed. Luckily, the heat worked very well.

We knew it used to be a Travel Lodge because there was a Travel Lodge tile in the shower surround.

This hotel is fine, nothing special and nothing bad.
