Although we arrived quite late, we were greeted hospitably by the owner who offered a drink after showing us our room. The house is a sprawling ranch style home with a large living room, beautiful dining room and pleasant enclosed porch. The dining room walls were extraordinarily refurbished by the owners from trees on the property destroyed in a hurricane. Clearly a great deal of time and care had been put into creating these walls which included a hidden doorway that led to the owners' space. Unfortunately, the rest of the house lacked that level of upkeep. The living room had oddly placed, thin strips of wood meant to look like timbers, I suppose, but were broken in some places and all lacked the desired effect. Our bedroom was very small and had a disturbingly musty smell that permeated the bed clothes. Opening the window did little to reduce the smell, and the window air conditioner was too noisy to permit hearing the tv or to be used as 'white noise.'
On a more positive note, breakfast, served on one long table on the porch, was delicious and where the owners seemed most comfortable. The property is lovely and following breakfast, guests who had not been introduced in anyway by the hosts, wandered separately about the yard seeking something to do before departing. This was not the experience we had anticipated.
