“You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

OK,let me say the room was paid for already due to a conference package. If not for that we would have moved after the first night. Myself and several other collegues stayed here and the experience was one that I would never recommend this location. First, they are under some long term renovations and have spent alot of money no doubt. However, you can put lipstick on a pig and it's still a pig!!! The hotel is atleast 50 years old by the dated layout and staff estimations. It's located between a very active Firehouse and the Regional Hospital. If you like sirens you're in for a real treat!! There are many levels to this place, and often confusing entrances to get to where you want to go. Get used to the stairs because the elevators are very SLOW! The heater failed to work properly and when it came on it sounded like it was coming thru the wall. The rooms were clean but very dated layout and little comforts of home. Some sort of smell throughout the hallways..Wireless Internet is a joke. Less than 1 mbps. Forget checking the web or email without an air card.
The sports bar and restaurant were under renovations as well, and the temp was 64* inside the place. We were freezing trying to eat, and finally had to leave the sports bar to watch the game in the rooms. We asked several times about the temp but no one seemed interested in correcting it or turning on the heat. We even called the front desk and requested maintenance come and check the temp. They said yep it's cold in here and walked back out..You would think during the biggest night in sports they would have had some drink and food specials and staff to handle the crowd. Then again with frigid temps the crowd thinned out quickly, and the food got cold before we could finish eating it. Most of the staff we came in contact with were friendly, with exception of the female manager in the sports bar. Customer service is NOT in her wheel house!!!
My suggestion, stop the renovations now and bring in the bulldozers!!!!

“Would not stay here again”

First, it took 30 minutes of waiting in line to check in. While we were walking to our room we noticed that hallway was very dirty like it hasn't been swept for a while. Room did not have a door knob to adjoining room so we couldn't even make sure it was locked. They were renovating this hotel, but obviously they sold the rooms before they were ready. Next day we came back to our room around 4 pm and it was not cleaned yet, but we were fine with it because hotel was full due to soccer tournament. House keeping and front desk was overwhelmed, management should have made sure to have enough help on hand. On top of all that we ran out of hot water while showering at 4 pm! When my daughter turned the hair dryer she almost got electrocuted !!! Sparks flew out of the appliance, it scared us so bad, luckily she was holding the hair dryer away from her face and hair. Maintenance replaced the dryer right away, but no one from the hotel apologize or try to make it right.

“Avoid at all costs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

The rooms that our group were allocated were supposedly renovated. The rooms were large, but dark, dingy and musty. The exterior of this hotel is a good reflection of what you can expect from the interior. The evening "manager's special" on the coupon given to us at check-in, was so special that no staff member knew where it was. No breakfast is included, but we were charged the full GSA per diem of $94. The TV must have been a 1980's model. To top it off, the hotel does not give Holiday Inn points even though the letterhead on the receipt is Holiday Inn. Apparently Holiday Inn has not officially taken over this dump; a sure way to diminish your brand's reputation. Do not expect Holiday Inn standards. Stay somewhere else.

“Poorly "renovated"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

Nov. 30th. Still doing so called renovations. I am in one of the newly done rooms. A coat of paint and a litle carpet does not constitute a renovation. The whole place still stinks. They should consider cleaning 30 years worth of who knows what and a lot of smoking out of the ventilation system. Apparently no one looked up cause there is still a good layer of build up on the grille. I don't want to think about further up the ductwork. Old TV's, was told they were out of reg. Coffee in room, and cream and sugar, old bedding. I made my reservation a year ago and verified it a week ago along with my room request in the other wing. They said it was noted and never even bothered to mention that wing was and has been closed. I would not recommend unless you have to. They absolutely count on their convention facilities to attract business.

Room Tip: Facing the pool is slightly quieter.

“Not to worry”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

I attended a conference here Nov. 11-13, 2011, and found that many of the issues discussed below have been handled. Our room was on the sixth floor, and it was large, attractive and very clean. Yes, it does still have an older-style TV, but was otherwise recently remodeled. We also used several reception room, meeting rooms and the open area around the double staircase for the set-up for the conference, and these areas were all clean and attractive. The location between a fire station and a hospital is unfortunate and unchangeable but we didn't experience any noise either night. When we requested extra towels, we got them. I would definitely come here again. Oh, also, the bed was very comfortable.
