I booked a room online in August. In October, two weeks before the actual date of the stay, I called to confirm the room. I was told I had a handicapped, non-smoking room. I said I didn't want a smoking room. The person, whose name I didn't get, said that was what as available and my only other alternative was to cancel the reservation. It was Homecoming at my college and there were no other rooms available. I didn't want to cancel. I repeated that I just didn't want a smoking room and said I was disappointed with the way she was speaking to me. She made no effort to correct her tone, telling me, :"I don't know how you want me to talk to you. You can either take the room that is available or cancel." On the day before my arrival, I noticed that my caccount had been debited $165.56 from Quality Inn. On my arrival, $329.12 was promptly debited. When I called about the TWO charges, I was told that the firs one would drop off after a couple of days. The young lady said,"unfortunately, that was the case." (Unfortunate for her? My money on hold for two days!!!) I went out to the event for which I came and got back to my room only to find that my key didn't work any longer!! I had to schlep all the way up to the front desk to have it re-programmed. These may not be a big deal to anybody else, but it really impacted my feeling and therfore enjoyment of the hotel experience for which I paid $329.12 for two nights! Oh yeah! The smell of smoke in the room was disgusting and oppressive even after being doused with disinfectant sprays repeatedly!!!
