“Reservation Nightmare!! :(”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Just tried to reserve a room here on the toll free number. Gave all my info and told them I needed an early check in because I have a wedding that day and I need to get ready early. The person told me it wouldn't be a problem and to call the Hotel directly as soon as we hung up and let them know. I called the Hotel and the clerk told me I would have to wait until the night before to see if I could get an early check in! I told her I can't wait that late to even see if I can check in! The check in is 4:00pm, which is AFTER the wedding! OMG....so, I told her that I manage a motel and if a guest requests an early check in, we accomodate them and make sure we have a room open so they can check in early. She had the nerve to tell me that I must not run my motel well! I guess making sure my guests get what they ask for is not the right thing to do according to Holiday Inn Express. So beware if you plan to stay here! They DO NOT CARE what you need or want!

“Everything I Expected, Nothing Exceptional”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

I checked out the motels in Elizabeth City and found only two to my standards: the Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton Inn. The Hampton was quite a bit more expensive so I chose the Holiday Inn Express. It is located in the shadow of the now defunct and abandoned regional jail, but you wouldn't know it unless you were looking very hard. The parking lot is small, but adequate, as is the lobby. The receptionist was friendly and my room was ready. My internet reservations indicated that I would have a recliner in my room, but there was none when I entered my room. I decided not to worry about it because I didn't want to change rooms. The receptionist recommended a local restaurant for dinner so I had a nice meal. Everything was there in the room that I expected (except the recliner!). It was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast the following morning was OK, but there was no meat, no sausage or bacon. Overall I would say it was a good experience, though nothing exceptional...

“Erin made the difference, a big help after a long day.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

After a long day and not making it to where I wanted to be. Upon calling several hotels in this area I was meet with less than enthusiastic, frankly unfriendly staff until I called this property.
Erin, was friendly, thoughtful and a delight to deal with. So I choose here.
The property is ok, the rooms are a little dated (I stay in a lot of hotels in the northeast, NYC, Boston) so perhaps my judgement is off. The rooms are clean, the tv is still 70's tech. Hey for a hundred bucks not bad. I slept and that's all that counts!

“Good Choice While In Elizabeth City NC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

Holiday Inn Express in Elizabeth City NC is a good hotel for a short stay. Rooms are clean, instant hot water in shower. Very good breakfast with a friendly staff. The only reason property was not rated very good, no fridge or microwave in rooms. If you are looking for an extended stay hotel, while there are not many options in Elizabeth City NC, there may be better options. But for a night or two, very nice hotel.

“Great gateway hotel to the Outer Banks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

people found this review helpful

Driving over 12 hours to reach our Outer Banks Vacation home requires us to spend an overnight stay nearby so we can cross the bridge early Saturday morning (missing heavy traffic). We found this nearby hotel for Friday night and reserved three rooms. The hotel staff was very friendly, checked us in quickly, and our rooms were immaculate. There is plenty of eateries nearby including an IHOP within walking distance. The free hot breakfast in the morning was filling and there is plenty of seating space. It's a great beginning to our vacation and we plan on staying here every summer.

Room Tip: Reserve early as summer vacation travelers fill rooms quickly.
