For us, this was a weekend getaway to celebrate our anniversary. We had never been to this house or the town before. The Grice-Fearing House is located in the Historic District of Elizabeth City, NC. It's a short walk (a few blocks) from the waterfront area and some nice restaurants, so we didn't use our car after we got there. Elizabeth City is close to the Outer Banks, but located on the less-tourist-inhabited Inner Banks coastline of northern North Carolina. The house itself dates back to the late 1700's and is wonderfully restored and superbly maintained. The hostess gives a fascinating tour of the house, including a detailed explanation of its history and the various additions and rennovations that have occurred. The innkeepers are retired computer analysts from Washington, DC who moved to EC to restore the house and open the B&B. They are a most charming couple, and the stay was worth it just to meet them. They made us feel very welcome. They pay attention to every detail with the accomodations, and it's obvious they take great pride in their home. The breakfast was elegant and superbly prepared - the host's pancakes were to die for! It's the best B&B experience we've ever had, and we look forward to going back. -- Couple from Greenville, NC
