We were visiting Duke, and chose the Hilton after the Washington Duke was full. The Hilton was my next choice because they had room service, a must for me. I was happy to see the 99% Sanitation certificate afer hearing that Durham is on "the list" for highest bedbug infestations. Gross. I had no issues with the cleanliness of the room, bedding etc. The door to the room, however, looked like there had been an attempted break in at some point, as the wood was chipped out around the deadbold. There was a peephole in the door, and a sign cautioning you to use the peephole A little disconcerting for a mother/daughter traveling alone. Almost made me afraid to go get ice.
So...room service. We got pork sandwiches, and a bowl of soup. Sandwiches were pretty good. For breakfast (room service), I ordered the All American with eggs, bacon, and substituted pancake, which caused some consternation. $3 for the sub, which was fine, but they couldn't understand why I didn't just order a short stack for $11.95. There were about 8 slices of bacon, and the side of sausage my daughter ordered was 6 links. North Carolinians must really love their pork!
The biggest negative of our stay was the a/c. The compressor came on every 5 minutes and cycled for a minute or less. In the middle of the night I figured out that I ran the fan on "on" instead of "auto" the noise would be disguised a little bit, but my daughter and I both had fitful nights of sleep. The front desk was interested in our comment about the a/c at checkout, and assure us it wasn't normal. The hotel is apparently undergoing some much needed renovation as we received a letter under the door apologizing for any construction mess and noise. It is surely needed. Front desk staff and servers all extremely pleasant.
If you're visiting Duke, this is a close option, just a couple of miles away from campus.

Dear 3 Tonkies,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review about your recent stay with us. It is true that we are very close (2 miles) to Duke University and Duke Medical Center and also offer a complementary shuttle service within a five mile radius of the hotel. It is also true that we love pork in North Carolina! We believe that a Hilton Breakfast starts with a hardy portion of quality farm fresh products while offering a tremendous value to our guest. Thank you again for sharing your experiences and I look forward to welcoming you again soon.
