My daughter needed to make a decision between Duke University and another school by May 1, so we came into Durham for "Blue Devil Days", an event for admitted students. Most of the hotels that Duke had recommended were already booked, so our travel agent booked us in the Hilton near Duke. It was a great choice. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. Eva, who helped us at the front desk upon check-in was wonderful. It was also great to have breakfast included with our room in the morning so that we could get going quickly and efficiently for our scheduled Duke visit. It was also a real plus having the hotel shuttle take us to the campus because university parking and traffic can be very heavy during a special student event such as this. We are already booking this hotel again for our daughter's move-in date in August. By then, the pool at the hotel will be open, another plus. All-in-all this is a wonderful and convenient place to stay when visiting Duke, and on another note, the room air-conditioning/fan works great for "white noise" when sleeping.

We used the Hilton as our base for a conference we recently held at Duke and found it a great experience both in terms of working with the hotel management in regards to housing our group (about 40 rooms needed). dealing with the out-front staff, and the accommodations proper. My only complaint would be the cooling and heating system in the rooms--it's a central system, not one of the window/wall units one finds in most motels/hotels--which sounded something akin to an aircraft engine. But, it's more of a distraction when one is awake and trying to watch TV or listen to the radio--for me, at least, it served admirably well as "white noise" for sleeping purposes.

The hotel provided me with great service upon checking in and throughout my stay. The room was in good condition as well but the longer I stayed the more little things I noticed that could be updated. The caulking for the tub in the bathroom was outdated and peeling away from the wall, showing mold. The wallpaper in the bathroom was also starting to peel. I want to reiterate that the hotel service was great. The hotel bar/restaurant was great as well. I just think a few things could be fixed and/or updated.

Stayed one week. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The staff make this hotel stand above the rest. Quick to answer questions and offer any needed advice. Room very clean. I did not "upgrade" for only one person, and would be cautious since a full breakfast buffet is not open every morning. Room fan allowed a very restful sleep, beds are awesome. Very safe. They allowed "special requests" for dining. Excellent food, lots of choices. Not a resort, but a very nice hotel! Free shuttle will pick you up within 15 minutes, call back if they don't. The absolute best choice for anyone needing to be at Duke, for a combo of "nice place to stay with easy access to Duke."
