We decided to stay overnight in Durham while shopping in Durham and Chapel Hill. The proximity of this hotel to the shopping areas is perfect. It was great to be able to just drive 5 minutes to the hotel instead of driving 2 1/2 hours home. The room was clean, but had an odd layout. A huge piece of furniture intended to make sure you could see the TV from either the bed or the living area separated them from each other. Empty spaces where you could tell the room used to be laid out differently. And no mini-fridge! The couch and chairs were laid out in such a way that you wouldn't really watch tv from there, and the furniture was not that comfortable. We were upgraded, which was very nice, but this mattress was terrible. Maybe not so bad if we were in our 20's. The hotel did not have a complimentary breakfast, and was a bit pricey for what you got. However, there were very nice amenities - pool, fitness room, business center for people like us who do not travel with laptops but still want pc access. The staff was very friendly. The common area in the lobby was a very nice place to sit a relax or to meet with friends before going out. A few updates, like a better mattress, and nicer bathroom towels would get this a better review. Very few and very skimpy bathroom towels. Time for replacements there too. Lots of great Black Friday specials in the area they should take advantage of! The biggest plus is that the hotel is completely non-smoking.

I was here for work....so it was important that I was able to focus; and get a good nights rest.

What I liked:
Great location - easy to access interstate and Streets at Southpoint. A nicer mall, decent chain restaurants, movie theatre, etc.

What I didn't like:
The hotel was set up in a square - with rooms around the inside perimeter. The bar / lobby area was set up on the groud floor beneath all the rooms. I'm not sure if the people in the bar were just extraordinarily loud - because it wasn't terribly busy - but their voices were amplified and I could always hear converstation below.

Not a deal breaker - but something that I certainly noticed.

I booked for two nights in a queen room, counter clerk a chinese guy tried to give me a room with two full beds which I declined but he insist that i take this room or take off (he was very very rude) he eventually gave me a handicap room- this handicap room was horrible, made me feel like a dorm room, towels were torn, bath room floor was dirty- furniture was almost worn out, still had that thick tube TV. I would never ever stay in this hotel and would not recommend anyone to even deal with these rude people

This is a beautiful, clean, reasonably-priced hotel, but there are some things that are disappointing. First, the wireless internet is about the worst that I have ever seen. Out of the 20 or 30 times I tried to access the internet on my laptop over the four days I spent there, I was only able to get online 2 or 3 times. Secondly, the room keys mysteriously kept failing--and at the most inopportune times. It certainly isn't convenient to stagger, bleary-eyed, back to your 6th floor room at midnight, only to have to return to the desk to have your key fixed. This happened to us three times in four days, and three times in two days to our friends. Lastly, if you appreciate being able to attend the hotel bar for some adult beverages, don't plan on receiving acceptable service. The bartender we had was absolutely, completely, 100% worthless. I didn't catch his name, but he was a middle-aged white man with dark hair and glasses. Terrible.

The one bright spot during our stay? A lovely gentleman named Devon. He did absolutely everything in his power to fix the problems and remedy our complaints. Unfortunately, there was only one Devon, and he didn't have the ability to fix everything.
