I have seen this property before and find that it has changed all of it's staff due to their (the staff's lack of accountability) problems in the past. The owner's actions in the face of earlier criticism is to be commended and given the benetif of the doubt in face of past issues. I found the new staff helpful and pleasant.
The hotel is no longer part of the Best Western chain.

If you stay at this hotel, keep your money on your person at all times. I left my wallet in my room one morning. After jogging, I returned to find my wallet was light 2- $100 bills. I noticed the cleaning people in the elevator going as I was returning to my room. Maybe the help is no longer being paid and they need to supplement their income in this way.

Miserable time, we were in town for three days on business in Durham. Conditions of the hotel were not terrible, although restaurant wasnt finished and management seemed to be in disarray. The most shocking aspect of our stay was that several times while walking through the lobby contractors and vendors who were owed, evidently, thousands of $$ hadnt been paid since the renovation was complete in May and were just waiting in vain for Manager RAJ. We overheard Manager Raj speaking with both the Electrician who completed the work, the Paint and Wallcovering supplier as well as the Furniture and Fixture supplier. From the Hotel managers tone, he had no intention of paying anyone. All were owed thousands of dollars, and management in our three day stay seemed to be ignoring them at different times through the day. The gentleman who supplied the lightbulbs was a local business owner who had been waiting for six months for $3,000, he said that the total owed to all vendors had exceeded $200,000 and was more than six months old. Once again not an awful place to stay, but as a business person the managers of this establishment just are not handling themselves well in the Raleigh-Durham Market. We almost felt self conscious being associated with the Hotel and so sorry for the vendors and contractors.
