“AWFUL! More like "dirtium"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

Stayed there while father was in hospital. The entrance is very deceiving. Please save yourself and bring your own soap. We were welcomed by the sweet smell of urine, curious flies in the room and the previous guest used bar of soap. I needed a nice place to sleep, but wished in a way I was drunk-because it was the sort of room one would probably be okay passing out in...

We are sorry you had such a disappointing experience. You always have the option of asking to be moved to a different guest room if you are assigned one you do not feel is up to standard. We’d like to counsel the housekeeper who was responsible for your guest room, but we are unable to do so without knowing what guest room you stayed in and on what date. If you would please contact me to give me that information, we will be able to make sure a room is not in the condition you state.

“Worst Hotel!”

I stayed at the Millennium Hotel in Durham for one week for work and it was horrific. My advice to anyone is to please STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!

I have mild dust allergies. The first night that I stayed, the mattress was so dusty I woke up with a fever. The second night - for the first time in my life - I went to REI and bought a sleeping bag. I am not kidding. In addition, I asked for a room change with a newer mattress. The second night after sleeping in the sleeping bag on top of the mattress (because the floor was even dustier) I finally was able to get some rest. Of course, during the entire trip, I was sneezing and uncomfortable.

My advice is to find another hotel. I've stayed at several hotels in the area. The Marriott in Durham is fantastic, Residence Inn in Research Triangle Park is a bit old but much cleaner, and the Hilton is great. The Millenium cannot compare to these hotels.

Room Tip: If you must stay, ask for a newer mattress. And, check the mattress for discoloration. Otherwise...

Reema V, you waited an entire year to create a TripAdvisor account so you could complain about your February 2011 stay? Whenever a guest has a valid issue with a guest room, they normally talk to the front desk agent who is then given an opportunity to rectify an issue. We have nothing in our front office log of your complaint. I would ask that you contact us to tell us your exact date of stay and room number because at this time, we can not validate your comments.

“Mixed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I pricelined this hotel for a ridiculously low rate. So, on that count--for one night--it was adequate. Yes, it's dark and has old carpet, but the room was clean. The $5 "extra" charge for "amenities" is really annoying, but not much money when you're paying so little in the first place.
It was quiet. It seemed clean.
BUT....the bleach smell when I arrived was overpowering. I immediately cranked on the air conditioning and headed for the lobby to hang out for hours, hoping it would dissipate. That's the only place for free wifi, anyway. Thankfully, it did dissipate, and all was well. But if you have a sensitivity or really bad asthma, you should not stay here.

I am more than happy to announce that as of March 1, 2012 we are eliminating the daily $5 auxiliary fee. However, that means we are now going to be charging guests for any phone calls they make from their guest room phone.

We will also be informing guests on check-in that they have the option (and it is an option) to purchase a shuttle pass.

We have the largest fleet of shuttles with the largest staff of drivers of any hotel in Durham, NC. The cost of gas continues to go up and we transport more than 10,000 medical patients driving more than 60,000 miles per year. In addition, our shuttle service includes locations within a 5-mile radius of the hotel and we regularly transport guests to clinics, pharmacies, grocery stores, restaurants, shopping malls – among other sites.

The cost of the shuttle pass will be $2 per person per day, which we feel is a fair price for what most of our guests tell us is an invaluable service. Parking at Duke Hospital is $2 per hour or $12 per day. Our shuttle service means hospital patients and their families don’t have to worry about fighting for a parking spot or incurring that cost.

“Worst HotelEver!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We came to Durham for husband's cancer surgery at Duke. Millenium has flyers all over hospital with "medical" rates of $74 per night. Lobby is decent, rest of hotel should be torn down! Dark, shabby, dirty, strange smells. No hot water. Food trays left on floors for days. Sleep clinic on top floor, so people walking around all night. No cell phone access in hotel. Charge for local calls & $10 daily for wifi. Place is a dump! Found a Comfort Inn with breakfast, free calls & wifi and a fridge & micro. Would not go back to Millenium, if they gave me a free room! Upon check out, found they charge. $5 daily "Auxilliary Fee"! Was so pissed! They never told me about this charge.....you have to read the small print!

Room Tip: Stay away from this place...there are so many better hotels in the area!

“Welcome to the future, welcome to the Millennium!”

Looking for a memorable experience? Look no further! Relax and Allow the negligent and undermanned staff of the Millennium hotel transport you to that long forgotten mystical era that to which you have always wanted to return; the era of style, panache and wonder. The legendary era of the early 1980s! Enjoy the narrow, dim hallways lit only by small candelabra bulbs last seen in the waiting area of a Reagan era olive garden. Breathe in the lingering scent of tobacco still emanating from the dirty floral print carpet. Gaze, in wonder, at the latest in television technology that 1983 has to offer! Store your belongings in a sagging armoire and refresh yourself in a state-of-the-art rust covered shower complete with your own personal colony of tenia pedis. Prepare to be pampered with truck-stop quality toiletries and then wrapped the thinnest of towels. Sleepy? Feeling the need to perform a few bodily functions on your bed before retiring? No worries! The Millennium hotel has pre-stained your sheets for you, so you need not soil them yourself. It's the little extras that really make this hotel experience unique. Hungry? Thinking of ordering room service? Feel free to peruse the tattered and stained menus and brochures not replaced since Devo was topping the charts. In town, and feeling the need to check your new fangled "electronic mail?" The business center is outfitted with the most modern computers running Windows 98, which are unable to print boarding passes. Welcome to the Millennium!

Yes indeed, all these amenities and more can be yours at this hotel, which for reasons beyond current scientific understanding received a 3 star rating on Hotwire.

SWStine, you mention in another review that you are “not normally one to write a review.”
We have to say that you are very creative. Would you please contact us and let us know what day you stayed with us and provide us the room number in which you stayed? You have posted several comments for a variety of locations for the same time frame and it makes it difficult to know when you actually stayed at our hotel. We don’t have any records of the multitude of complaints you listed, which we would like to correct. Thank you for your help.
