“Nice, clean but yes beds and AC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

As a previous review noted , this hotel is well located especially if you need to go to Duke Medical center which is just down the street. The staff here is very friendly and this hotel is quite clean and a very safe place to stay.

Subjectively speaking , the beds are "very soft" so if you are looking for firmness you will be disappointed.

On the room air conditioning , they use in wall units that you can adjust digitally. During my stay it was very warm and humid outside and the wall unit struggled to keep up. SInce I had checked in late it seemed too much trouble to move rooms. ( wrong decison on my part as I am sure the hotel would have been happy to move me).

Room rates are a good value but expect to pay $9.95 for a pretty good buffet breakfast. Other than this , I would stay here again.

“Nice but need better beds!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011 via mobile

Traveling with wife and 2 kids. Hotel is a bit older. Some signs of age but no real issues. Seemed like a good area. Several eateries within walking distance. Kids loved the outdoor pool. Decent size and clean. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Room in good shape and clean. Only complaint were the beds. Very, very soft and for me, very uncomfortable. They appeared to be in good shape, so I can only assume that they were ordered that way. At least go with something middle of the road, not too soft, not too firm.

“Great location if touring Duke University”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

I was traveling with my daughter to tour Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill. This hotel is convenient to Duke and a short distance away from Chapel Hill.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is at the customer's expense in the hotel but the coffee is complimentary.
There are no fast food options in this area if you want a quick meal.
We ate breakfast at Elmo's Diner on 9th Street.

“Exactly what I needed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

Stayed at this hotel for one night during a business trip. I wanted a hotel that was clean, convenient, and inexpensive. The Courtyard fit all of those needs and more. Room was clean, hotel has plenty of amenities including a free business center, and wireless in the room was free. Got the room for about $130, which was a reasonable price given the quality of the hotel, and much cheaper than other options in the area. Staff was very friendly and accomodating.

Only complaint is that staff provided conflicting information on transportation options. The first time I called, they told me I could get a taxi from the airport for $50 or a "black car" for more than that. They also told me the only way to get to the Duke campus was to hire a taxi, which would run about $10. The next time I called, they told me I could get a Super Shuttle from the airport, which would cost about $20, and that the only way to get to the Duke campus from the hotel was--again--to hire a taxi. When I got to the hotel (I took SuperShuttle, the cheapest of the 3 options), I found out that it had a free shuttle to Duke and that I would not have to take a taxi to the campus.

Overall, though, a very good experience and a very good hotel. I'll stay here again when in Durham.
