The hotel was extremely dirty, the lobby was literally falling apart and appeared to be under contruction, yet there was nothing to indicate repairs were taking place. the room was dirty, disheveled, and smelled strongly of body odor (as did the entire first floor). I had booked a reservation for 2 nights, but immediately canceled the booked second night elsewhere. The staff was congenial and helpful, and the continental breakfast was decent.

Arrived in Durham in the late evening and this was our second choice for a hotel since the other one next to it was full. Rooms were okay but a little small. Hallway kind of had a funny smell to it but the room did not. I was not sure if the smoke detector was working, I did not see a green light on in it.

Overall the room was okay but I could hear noise from the other rooms from time to time. The commode was slow flushing but did the job. I did sleep okay.

Two complaints.

1. The breakfast is a joke. They boast an upgraded hot breakfast. The ONLY thing hot was the waffles, IF you fixed it yourself. I'd rather eat at McDonald's, and I don't care for their breakfast.

2. The housekeeping staff need to learn how to do their jobs a little bit better. We all know housekeeping is supposed to knock on the door, announce themselves, and WAIT. After telling the housekeeper at 9:00am (she didn't announce herself) that we will be leaving at 11, she comes back 30 minutes later, knocks, announces, and barges on in. WTF?!

Other than this, we were comfortable. It would not be a first choice to stay the next time we are in Durham, but it's not the worst.

This hotel is right off the highway. It's located about 2 miles from Duke. We walked into the lobby to check in and it was chaotic...loud...obnoxious....humid....and stunk. We checked in and asked if that was "normal" and the clerk said yes. The clerk had an attitude...I would have too if I had to work in that atmosphere. We were disgusted as soon as we opened the door to our room. It was rank...humid...moldy smelling. The air conditioner was on full blast, but needed to be repaired/replaced. I got an instant headache & my colleague felt nauseous. It was not even a remote possibility to stay in that room. We asked if there was another room that we could try. They had only ONE left and let us see it. SAME. We checked out immediately. We may have the world record for the shortest stay in a hotel. Do not stay here...not even for free.
