“stay somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

called & spoke w/ front desk person about room before making reservation. they assured me that my room would have a wonderful view of the mountains. we had a "no smoking" room. the room stunk, there were cigarette burn marks on the tub, the hall stunk of smoke, 80% of the view from our room was the hotel's canopy and 2 mobile homes. there was a low mountain that you could see if you looked extremely to the right. the bathroom door was placed so that we could not get the wheelchair past the door without closing the door and then reopening the door after pushing the wheelchair up into the corner. (this was a handicapped room). the desk person was kind & apologetic- he gets a 5 star rating.

Room Tip: if you smoke, aren't handicap and don't care what's out the window or want a hotel that...

“Business Trip - one night stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

I was given a back corner room with two queen beds. First time I stayed in a corner room and man what a BIG room it was....the TV was great, AC was cold, however it did make a noise that woke me up a few times during the night.

Very Quite!!!!

If you are looking for rest, stay here...

Room Tip: ask for a corner room, even numbers

This is a great place to stay if you're looking for a pet friendly hotel. The rooms are well kept and clean. It was also very quiet. This hotel is close to many day excursions: the falls in Bryson City and Highlands, as well as the Great Smoky National Park and Gorges State Park.

“Mostly good but a few negatives”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

My wife and I flew from Atlantic City NJ to Atlanta to take a trip to the Smokey Mountains. We had never been there before. I looked for a decent hotel to stay in close to the park. We stayed there for three nights in late Oct. It was a three hour drive from Atlanta to the hotel. We arrived before check in time, but our room was available so we were able to get in it early. That's always a plus. We were on the third floor. The room had a huge 42 inch flat screen tv. I believe that is the biggest tv I have run accross in any hotel. That was a big plus. Traffic noise was not noticed as long as the air system was running. One night the power went out about 2AM. I awoke to loud traffic noise as you are located right by Highway 74. Our room was on the back of the hotel which faces the highway. When the power went back on the highway noise was once again drowned out. The staff here is friendly and effecient. Perhaps a little too effecient. When we came back to the room one day I noticed that a six pack of beer and a half empty tube of pringles were gone. There was only one craft beer left in the six pack container at the time. The rest were in the ice bucket. I called down to the front desk to see what had become of my beer and snacks. Of course all they could say was that perhaps the person cleaning our room had mistaken my unopened bottle of beer and half empty container of chips as garbage. As a gesture of good will they gave us some snacks, water, and a couple thousand priority points. I would have rather had the beer. The hotel does have a nice indoor pool and hot tub. We made use of it after hiking in Deep Creek. My wife's computer was able to be used in the room. The breakfast is the usual HIE fare which is good in my opinion. Plenty of hot water and the toilet worked well. We did notice a strong odor of tobacco smoke in the hallway of the third floor. At least it was not in our non-smoking room. You will have to drive to get to the local restaurants unless you are willing to walk to the small Subway restaurant which is next to the hotel and gas station.Even with the case of the missing beer, I think I would return to this hotel in the future if I were going to tour the area again. The good outweighed the bad in our case.
PS Our room did not have a microwave or a mini-fridge.

Room Tip: Pick a room on the front side of the hotel as I believe it will be a little quieter. Don't lea...

“I'll give it an Average +”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

Everything you would expect, but nothing exceptional. Well kept facility, nice clean room, friendly staff, good breakfast and easy access. Certainly, no compliants, but nothing particularly noteworthy either, except the large screen TV in the room which accounts for the plus.

On the other hand, the hotel is located very close to "The Jarrett House", a historical inn and restaurant which serves terrific homestyle meals (fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, fresh vegatables and melt in your mouth biscuits).
