“Great hotel - right on the river”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

What a great place to stay! We booked a balcony room overlooking the Tuckasegee River. It was a cool evening but we were able to leave the window open so we could hear the river all night. I've actually never slept so well in a hotel room. What is it the river? the bed? not having the room AC/heat going all night? Not sure. But we will definitely return if we're in this area. Only negative was breakfast which was the usual (and staff member started packing things away 10-15 mins. early). It's also situated outside of the downtown historic district which I found to be a positive thing. Don't usually stay at Best Westerns but reviews were so positive we thought we'd try it and we're glad we did.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the river.

“Diamond in the rough, but one rude staff member”

My stay was completely unplanned, I just happened to be traveling through on my way to see family in Lumberton, NC when I decided to stop here after seeing the sign because I was sick of driving and wanted to relax and shower. Upon walking in to the hotel it was beautiful, very clean, and surprisingly updated. As I approached there was a gentleman standing behind the counter talking on his cell phone, I think his name was Noel (?), and ignoring me (even though I should be the number one concern) after waiting a few moments I wandered off to find the restroom, upon my return the employee was gone and a sign had been placed on the counter but I could still hear the employee talking behind the counter-he was STILL talking on his cell phone! Finally the young man decided that I could be helped I guess because he came to check me into my room. He was all business there was no greeting, no 'how are you' or even hello just 'I need your ID and credit card' which I found extremely rude. After getting my room key cards and going to my room it was wonderful! The balcony rooms are definitely well worth the price and everything is kept so clean and the styling is perfect for the hotel. After showering and resting I decided to find something for dinner, on my way out there was a lady at the desk this time and she was much friendlier than the guy she offered me several options for dinner and provided menus for a few of them (I HIGHLY recommend Kostas in Dillsboro they are delicious) and she gave me directions. The breakfast is great to be included in your stay and the staff, other than the male front desk employee that I came in contact with during check in and check out, were very accommodating and friendly and eager to offer their assistance. I would highly recommend this hotel to any and everyone just hope you don't have to deal with the same rude individual that I came into contact with.

Room Tip: Splurge for the river facing rooms, they are well worth the price!

Thank you for taking the time to give us a review on Trip Advisor. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed the hotel and our amenities, especially the riverside balcony room.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for the incident you experienced with our staff member. This issue has been addressed extensively and I sincerely appreciate you bringing it to my attention. This is very uncharacteristic of our hotel, and I hope you'll come to visit us again.

If I can provide any assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me directly at 828-586-6060.

Sincerely,
Vick Patel General Manager

“AMAZING HOTEL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

Our family had not been back to the Smoky Mountains in about 10 years, so this past Thanksgiving week we decided to take a trip to NC. Our first stop was Dillsboro, NC and we decided to stay at the Best Western PLUS River Escape Inn because of the positive feedback in Trip Advisor. I have to say that I was totally impressed with this hotel. I usually don't stay at Best Western (we go for the higher end hotels), but I have to say that this was a shock to us. The rooms are huge, clean, the beds and pillows are super comfy, and the bathroom is a very good size with everything you need. We booked a room with a balcony and a view of the stream and it was absolutely amazing; we even slept with the balcony door open to hear the rushing stream. The service was as good or better than most hotels I usually stay at and the "Southern Hospitality" was felt throughout the hotel. Included in the price of the room is also breakfast which includes eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, muffins, waffles, coffee, juice, etc. This hotel is definitely a "keeper" in my book. Will stay here every time we come back to NC; and this time we will not wait 10 years.

Room Tip: Book a room with a balcony and a view of the stream (A MUST).

“Peace on the river!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Extremely clean facility, large rooms and great front desk staff. Make sure to ask for riverside room! The river will be right below your balcony. This is my third stay at this hotel and it is especially nice in the summer because you can leave the door open and hear the water rushing.. Elevation of Dillsboro allows for you to do this because the air is so cool. Just walk straight through the lobby/breakfast area and out the back door onto decking with white rocking chairs which allows you to take in the peacefulness of the river. View from the rooms is nice, but just plastic chairs on the balconies. Breakfast is pretty average for a "breakfast included" hotel, but then again, you can fix your plate and take it outside on the deck where there are also tables with umbrellas - again, the river makes this place special. Dillsboro has several restaurants downtown within about a quarter of a mile from the hotel or you can drive through Dillsboro and find several great restaurants in the neighboring town (just over the bridge) of Sylva. Try to find time for strolling around the quaint little village of Dillsboro.

Room Tip: Ask for riverside!

“Clean and Relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

I had to come to Cullowhee NC on business and found the Best Western Plus River Escape in nearby Dillsboro. The hotel is located on the edge of the river and my wife and I selected a river view suite. When we arrived we found a very warm welcome at the front desk. Our room was clean and spacious. We were on the second floor overlooking the river. This hotel is charming and well worth coming to as a guest. The front desk staff assisted us in finding a nearby restaurant and gave us a copy of the restaurant's menu so we knew what to expect. The restaurant was very good. All in all, if you need to come to the Dillsboro/Sylva/Cullowhee area on business this hotel is a guilty pleasure!

Room Tip: Pay the few dollars more and select a river view suite. It is worth the added expense.
