“Average Hotel - Need to Clean Better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2010

We stayed one night at the Wingate in Concord, NC after flying into Raleigh. We stayed here to be closer to drive to the Biltmore Estate the next morning. There were numerous hotels in this area, along with LOTS of shopping. The hotel was in a great location, easily accessible to the highway. Everything in the room was okay, except around the edges of the cheap tub surround and around the tub drain which had mildewy black stuff. Definitely, this hotel needs to do a better job cleaning of their wet areas and maintaining the tub/shower area.

The service and front desk were friendly and welcoming.

“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

What a wonderful stay we had at the Wingate. Every area of this hotel was clean. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful with any information that was needed. You couldn't ask for a better room accomadation than this hotel had to offer. The breakfast was a wonderful addition, which include hot food items such as: eggs, bacon, sausage, hash brown and waffles. This hotel is a great location to many activities, such as: Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord Mills Mall, Race shops, any many food establishments.

“a fine stop on the way south, but a busy area!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2009

Standard Wingate Inn set up here. The rooms are larger and clean. All have mircowaves and fridges. Bigger room have nice easy chairs. The bathroom very clean and adequate. All clean and well appointed. There is a small fitness room plus pool. The pool was outdoors which was a bit of a disappointment but the hot tub is inside. In a cell of a room but at least assessable in bad weather. The free Breakfast was the Wingate standard highlighted by the waffle maker. Also the wi-fi worked without issue.

Lots of dinning options are near by. The weekend clients are “guys in expensive t-shirts” usually driving an SUV with bikes on the back. Lots of North/South travelers. It is also a great area to run if you get up early. If not stay in side as the roads get busy.

This is the Speedway area so avoid if there is a race going on, unless you are attending.
There is every flavor of chain in the area. So pick favorite. If Wingate is yours you cant go wrong here and will get what you expect.

“Mixed opinions on the Wingate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2008

Well, I liked this place a lot better than my husband did, so here are both sides...

I liked the room layout; just one room but with plenty of space for luggage and getting around despite two kids and a ton of toys spilling out of backpacks. I liked that we had the smallish outdoor pool all to ourselves; there seemed to be very few people at this hotel, mostly business travellers. I liked the location very handy to the Interstate and Concord Mills mall (but there is no shuttle). The bedding was top quality in my opinion; fluffy, clean, double-sheeted, good quality towels and amenities. Lots of variety in the self-serve breakfast. Also an afternoon "reception" with free drinks (including beer and wine), cheese and crackers, etc. But the atmosphere was depressing; I think it would've been a great opportunity for the hotel to have a staffer chatting people up, talking about the area, just generally making us feel welcome. Exercise room was adequate.

My husband noted that many things seemed worn...the lock on the pool gate needed repair, the pool towels ranged from ok to threadbare, and the carpet was surprisingly thin and worn--you could feel the cement floor and it felt unclean if you were in barefeet. The elevators could do with air-conditioning. Value-wise, my husband thought we could've done better at the Springhill Suites next door. (That particular Springhill didn't have great reviews here, so we took the Wingate instead.)

  • Liked — Spacious room, nice beds
  • Disliked — worn flooring

“Comfortable and convient, but very expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2008

I stayed at the Wingate Inn for one night during the car show weekend. My father made reservations (he was a dealer at the show), and I went down for one night to shop. My room had a door that led to my parent's room next door. The hotel was booked full, but I barely heard any noice. The rooms are EXTREMELY quiet! I was on the fourth floor, in a smoking room (not my choice), and it did smell a bit like stale smoke, but that is to be expected in a smoking room. I was very pleased with the spaciousness of the room and the large king size bed. The bed was honestly the most comfortable I have ever felt in a hotel. The pillows were pure luxury and I wanted to take them all home. I slept better than I have in a long time. I brought my own pillow and didn't even use it! The free internet is wonderful, and the connection actually works well on the top floor, unlike many places. Plus, if you don't have a computer, there are computers avalible to use in a room off of the lobby. I was a bit disappointed in the bathrooms - I thought that for the price/reputation, I would get a larger shower and softer towels. The shower was small, but I will say that the shower head was very nice, with different settings. I was also disappointed that we weren't given conditioner in the bathrooms. I don't want to bring my hair conditioner on every trip, and it would be nice for some hotels to offer it. The room had a large desk, with a port to connect for internet and computer charging. There was a huge LG flatscreen tv in each room, but the picture quality was a bit grainy - they need to hire a professional television person to come in and adjust all the settings to sharpen the picture, because it was like this in both my room and my parents' room.
One other thing - the curtains let light in from the streetlights outside, which is something I wish I didn' t have to deal with at a hotel that charges a higher rate.
The alarm clock had an mp3 port with speakers, which was really suprising, so I was able to listen to my music!
I enjoyed the breakfast the next morning. I made my own waffle, which was delicious! Fruit would have been nice to top it with, but the syrup was good too. There was a nice suprise - sausage links, eggs, and biscuits! I made grits with hot water, and there were plenty of other things too - pastries, donuts, bagels, toast, english muffins, other muffins, lots of cereal, and 4 different juices, plus milk. I wish I would have gotten the chance to try the whirlpool & pool, but I didn't have time.
Since there was so much traffic this weekend (police directing at every stoplight), we elected to stick to the vicinity of the motel to eat and there were lots of places nearby - 5 men burgers, waffle house, plenty of fast food, etc.

  • Liked — Extremely Comfortable Beds and pillows, spacious room, good internet connection, good location
  • Disliked — small showers, grainy television, streetlight shining through curtains, high price of room
