Very friendly staff...they gave me a $5 voucher to their shop, which is good, sodas are only 50 cent. I like Candlewoods, usually stay at one every week. They all have kitchens in rooms and all have nice gyms with weight machines. However this particular hotel said the one phrase that is a deal breaker for me...."we are going to have to have a credit card on file for incidentals.". I refused and ask they cancel my room and the manager was kind enough to waive their demand. They wanted to swipe my card and hold $25 on it for 10 days....why???? They told me it was in case I stole something from their shop or made a long distance call. I have 2 cell phones and pay in taxes what the manager makes. I told them that I travel 3 nights per week year round and every week Im in a Holiday Inn and a Candlewood at least once and for the past year I've NEVER been told I had to have a cc for incidentals. I've been asked occasionally if Id like to put one on file and I say no and they just cut the room phone off. This hotel was almost willing to let a Platinum PC member walk out the door over this and they could not believe that no other hotels have ever asked for a cc to hold...they said this was their new policy. This reminded me of traveling in 2008 back when hotels really did demand a cc for incidentals. Nowadays they may swipe the card but not put a hold, or they make a copy of your license. 2 years ago I stayed 1 night at a Marriot in Richmond VA that demanded a cc for incidentals. They assured me it was a $40 hold for my one night stay. I later ordered a beer from the bar and my card was declined. I used this debit card for travel expenses only. That's right, this Marriot had actually held EVERY AVAILABLE PENNY ON MY CARD. They placed a $816 hold on my debit card!!! When people travel weekly for business that stay in 2 or 3 different hotels a week, if each one put a $25 to $40 hold on my card for 10 days, I would have a constant $300 revolving hold on my card. You people need to wake up...holds are a thing of the past, and this is your "new" policy? The competition that treats me well and doesn't ask for a cc to hold, which is, well, every other hotel, has won because I will not return. Also you need a fan setting option on the thermostats in the rooms, can't sleep in a dead quiet room.
