We went to Harrah's for just one night in January to see how the remodeling was progressing. I have to say, it does look good. The Noodle Bar was open (but be aware, it's only open on certain nights at certain times), the new Buffet was open and it was a shorter walk from the hotel to the Casino. We stayed in the newer Creek Tower and everything was fine - the carpet in the hallways seemed a bit worn and dirty for being such a new facility and the shower had mold/mildrew around the drain and corners, but other than those things it was a nice room. The check in disk was friendly and fast, as usual. And we always love the Valet parking - friendly guys.
The Casino was a big disappointment. It is not well marked - you can wander around aimlessly and still not find what you're looking for. Last time we came here the newer part of the casino had just opened and it was so nice. Now, it's back to the old ways. Many of the machines I played had buttons missing, or buttons that didn't work - on one, you had to pull the handle because the buttons didn't work at all. On at least 5 of them, the money/ticket slots didn't work so I wasn't able to play them at all. Most of them were dirty with the previous players drink glass or cigarette butts still sitting there. And very few payouts. I have a rule when I play the slots - if the machine doesn't "hit" in 6 plays, I leave. I moved from machine to machine a lot that night. It's disheartening and financially draining not to at least win a little something to keep me at the machine. I guess it's time to drive a little further and head back to Biloxi for my gambling fix.
We went to Paula Deens for dinner again - we've been there a total of 3 times now for dinner - and it always seems like a hit and miss. The first time we went we were disappointed in the food - it was only so so and the service was so so also. The next time our server was great and the food was too. This time our server seemed scattered - I got the Fried Catfish, which was amazingly good last time, and my husband got the Low Country Boil (or something like that). I ordered a Spinach Salad to start my meal and DH got the salad bar. Next thing we knew our server brought DH his entree - before she brought him a salad plate - and brought me my Spinach Salad. She told him "oh, I thought you just went and got your salad"....sigh. The Spinach Salad is excellent and I enjoyed it. About halfway through my salad, she brought me my entree. The catfish was lukewarm and rubbery and the fries was tasteless and cold. I should have sent it back. But I hesitated and ate it anyway because - well, because we were hungry and I wanted to just get out of there. DH's entree was hot, but tasteless - he said it tasted like it was all just cooked in just salted water. Sigh. We told the cashier the problems on the way out and she apologized. But we won't go back again. And I have to say that it ruined my gambling for the rest of the evening.
We went to the Lounge on the Casino floor for a nice drink, and paid $10 each for Martinis served in plastic cups. Ick. Come on Harrahs, get with it. Treat your customers better and provide a fun, happy, enjoyable place for them to lose all of their money.
We've been going for 12 years, but we won't go back again.
