Located in Cherokee, NC, in the quiet part of town (not too close to the casino) and near the entrance of the Great Smoky Mtn National Park. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room we had was on the second floor and was clean and comfortable. We had a microwave and refrigerator in the room. The hotel is very clean and updated. There is a breakfast bar next to the lobby with cereal, breads, toaster waffles, french toast, mini muffins, pastries, bagels, yogurt and fruit. Beverages include coffee, milk, apple juice and orange juice. Open from 7am to 10am Simple, but gets the job done for a day of hiking in the Great Smoky Mtn National Park. We checked out the casino which is about 10 minutes away. Typical casino atmosphere. Mostly slot machines. One thing that was interesting was the "card" table games were all digital, no cards.
We ate at Granny's Restaurant after a day of hiking. Weren't looking for anything fancy. $12 per person. Granny's is a buffet with homestyle food. Decent salad bar, red/russet potatoes, mac n cheese, green beans, corn on the cob, BBQ ribs, fried chicken, fried fish, roast beef. For me the fried chicken was the best of the group, ribs were a bit tough and the roast beef was a little too well done. There's no real dessert, except for pudding. I did like the baked apples/sauce. Granny's is located a couple of miles past the casino if you are driving from the hotel. There of many other restaurants near the casino as well. Take note: most of the restaurants close by 9pm, as does most of the shops. There is a Hardee's near the hotel that is open until 10p and Wendy's near the casino that is open until 1am. We did get a recommendation for Paul's restaurant, which is close to the hotel, but didn't have time to try it. Was a great way to start our trip. We would definitely stay again!
