I've probably stayed at this property over 40 times in the past 8-years. There have been a lot of changes but several things stay consistent. The location is great for access to the airport and local businesses near Billy Graham Parkway and the Yorkmont Rd. area. The location is safe for late night arrival and the staff has always been pleasant and helpful.
The interior public spaces had begun to get "tired" but in the past year or so, there has been a major renovation of the lobby area and an addition of the Sheraton Business Center and Link@Sheraton which is a multi-station work center appearing in many of these Starwood properties. This has been a great addition for work space needs with good wireless, available computers, plenty of electrical hook-ups and printing capabilities. The lobby upgrades are similar to many Starwood brands with lots of earth tones, segregated seating areas, and a lot of "pottery Barn" style decor.
The rooms are also a good size for the price and now have the upgraded Sheraton bed (not the same as the Heavenly Bed at Westin) but still very nice. TV's were new flat screen with a lot of channel choices but no pay for view options.
Food service has always been hit or miss at any hotel, especially room service. This hotel is not different but they seem to have tried to makes some changes that add to the standard ubiquitous menu at every mid-range hotel in the country. There are some new "local" selections like pulled pork sandwiches and ribs and some other different choices but room service menus everywhere need more thought and creativity in my humble opinion.
At least the selections were served quickly and were hot or cold as required.
The restaurant is ok and has a pretty good selection for the breakfast buffet. You can order off menu if you want to keep from hot food table food. Dinner is convienient if you are stuck at the hotel but you are better off finding somewhere off site. There are several good restaurants in the area and South Park Mall is not far with some good choices.
The exercise room is small so get there early if you want a machine or be prepared to wait. Wish they had a real upright bike machine rather than just an incumbent.
Nice meeting facilities large enough for medium groups and they seem to host a lot due to proximity to airport. Especially nice board room type meeting set up for small groups of 10-12.
If you are an SPG, they have reserved parking for you (not sure how they enforce it) and a good club room with hot and cold breakfast options and evening hot snacks. Could be a little more creative than cookies every night!
I left some electronics in my room last stay and after calling their lost and found, they returned the item promptly.
Only complaint. negotiate your prices. I made reservations at same time as my employee who met me there and stayed at same night. He paid $45.00 less per night than me and I am still waiting for an explanation from hotel staff. I think I'm paying full rack rate even though I'm using the Starwood site which advertises lowest rates. How does $185.00 a night sound when some people on this thread are paying $99.99 and are only staying once! In fact, seeing some of the quoted rates on this review site, I have been paying way too much for years and feel ripped off as I am such a frequent guest there. This may make me rethink my choices in the future unless I can get the rate issue resolved.
Room Tip: All rooms are equal but stay away from elevators and ice machines.
