“If you need to be right downtown - and you want a Hilton...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Charlotte is a small walkable downtown. There is the Bank of America side and the Wachovia (Wells Fargo) side. The Hilton is more on the Wachovia side but close to center. You can walk almost anywhere from the hotel. Parking is easy - but stupid. There is a hotel deck so it's easy to find. The spaces are small and cramped but no worse that most downtown parking decks. The pain is that you take the elevators to one floor, walk through a maze to get into the hotel - then take another (different) elevator bank to get to check-in, then take the elevators again to get to your floor. If you have a lot of stuff - good luck. If you are in a hurry - good luck (these aren't the world's fastest elevators). The rooms themselves are pretty typical Hilton. The breakfast was average. There are places to eat within walking distance (but not right next door - be prepared for a 5-10 minute walk). Overall it's a good place if you need to stay downtown. If you don't then there are other easier Hilton chain options within a few minutes drive of downtown.

Thank you for staying with us and for providing us with your valuable comments. I agree that Uptown Charlotte is small enough to walk to many places and that our hotel has a great location within the city, which is desirable for many of our guests.
Unfortunately, we do not own the parking garage connected to our building. We’ve placed a lot of signage in order to better direct our guests to our hotel because we understand that the parking garage is not easy to navigate. Since the garage is in a separate building from our hotel, our guests do need to use two different elevators- one when in the garage and one when in our hotel.
We are proud to be the only 4 Diamond Hilton in Charlotte, and we hope that you will choose to stay with us again in the future.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I just returned from my stay at Hilton Charlotte Center City. I was there to attend an ASCD institute. When I made my reservation in advance for two nights I was not told that the first night would be billed to my credit card immediately rather than just held for me. They did know I was attending the ASCD institute because I had to tell them when booking in order to get the institute rate. When I checked out and tried to pay for both nights with the travel credit card my school district had given me I was told I could only use it for the second night, the first night was already charged to my personal credit card and could not be changed. So now I must wait four to six weeks to be reimbursed by they district because I did not follow the district procedure. I talked to another person who stayed at a different hotel because school districts do not pay for hotel rooms in advance because they cannot afford to pay for hotel rooms that might go unused. I have travelled numerous times with my school district and have never had a problem with a hotel transfering the charges from my personal credit card to the school credit card when I checked in or out.

In the minor complain department, no maid service and no shuttle from the airport to and from the hotel. The only transportation is a $25 taxi ride each way.

I have stay in Hilton Hotels many times, but this one was a definite disappointment. I will not be stay at the Hilton Charlotte Center City again. The Hilton Honors point you get are not worth the aggrevation.

I also had a problem with internet access. I was not told when I checked I was not told ASCD had arranged for internet access with a special code so I had to pay to get on the internet to get the handouts and presentations I would need for the next day. When I complained about this I was told the code was written on the outside of the key holder. However, when I tried the code, it did not work. The code had been written down incorrectly by the person who checked me in the night before!

Thank you very much for your comments. We do appreciate our guests letting us know where we can improve. Also, we appreciate having had the opportunity to host the ASCD conference.
I want to apologize for the payment situation that you encountered. It was definitely something we could have taken care of prior to your departure, providing the district gave written authorization to charge all of the room charges to their credit card. Please contact our accounting department at 704-331-4379, so that they may assist you with obtaining your money back as soon as possible.

Our hotel, like most hotels in the Uptown area, does not offer free shuttle service to and from the airport. We do offer a limousine transportation service to our guests, which is very convenient since the drivers wait for their next customer at the front entrance of our hotel. I also apologize that you didn’t receive maid service. I am not sure if you had a “Do Not Disturb” sign on a guest room door. When there is a “Do Not Disturb” sign our housekeepers are instructed not to enter the guest room per the guest request, otherwise every room is cleaned in our hotel unless there was an oversight with your particular guest room.

I am happy to let you know that we have upgraded our internet to ensure better speed and connectivity. I apologize that you were provided with an incorrect written code as we typically have preprinted codes available to provide to our guests.

We do hope that you give our hotel and team another opportunity to wow you in the future.

“Great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Booked this hotel after several comparisons and reviews. Location is central. Hotel was quiet during our stay but lovely staff attention was still great. Slower paced than NY but what do you expect. Great neighborhood for walking and getting to know more of Downtown Charlotte which is growing by the day. Love the game console connection in room as my husband and I travel with our Wii for fun. Gym is located in adjoining bldg and is sponsored by YMCA. Complimentary if you mention you are staying at the Hilton. Loved my stay will stay here when we come back.

“The filthiest hotel I have ever stayed in my life.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I've been travelling the World since I was 16 (now I'm 39) and even here in Charlotte where I come at least twice a month for work, I stayed in many hotels, but I have never seen a filthy room like this. When I checked in, the toilet had an unflashed No.2 , and when I called the front desk - after put me on hold for 20 minutes, Chris told me that it is probably clogged and he can send up someone if I would like to have the seat wipped.......
after this accident I took a quick observation:
1. the mirrors are only cleaned until the cleaning lady can reach, but even lower lever it has spots on it. The top of the mirror is foggy.
2. The little cabinet where you can put your baggage was covered with dust and the edges acculated years of filth.
3. Both the table and the night stand has dryed on spots on them, that actually you can remove with your nails.
4. Behind the night stand some chocolate papers and the back of the nightstand is covered with dust as well.
5. Some weird stain on the chair as if someone spilled some milk on it.

I didn't have the courage the look under the bed. Not sure if I'll try the breakfast tomorrow..... I checked in on Friday and will check out tomorrow, Monday. Room No. 1918

The location is great.

When I called and asked about parking they told me that both the guest parking and the valet is full so I will have to look for alternative solution. I find it weird that a hotel can't supply enough parking space for their guests.

The interaction between the staff and the guests seems minimal. They seem to be busy chating with each other all the time and doesn't really recognize your presence.

Overall the hotel screams for a make-over. probably not just for the interior......

Good luck!

Room Tip: the location is great. If you don't have any other option, and you must stay here, make sure to...

Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to provide us with your valuable feedback. I’m glad you enjoyed the location of our hotel, which is conveniently within walking distance of all that Uptown has to offer. I was disappointed to hear that we had not follow through to ensure your guestroom was inspected and clean upon your arrival. I would like to sincerely apologize for that and let you know that I find it unacceptable. This will be addressed with our housekeeping team.
Being a 4-Diamond Hilton hotel, we have very high standards for every member of our team and high cleanliness standards for the entire hotel. I hope you will give our hotel another opportunity to show you why we are a 4-Diamond property. I am confident that we will meet and exceed your expectations in the future.

“Great location for city excursion and sports in Charlotte”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I stayed at this hotel for a long weekend city escape and to attend a Carolina Panthers football game. This hotel was very convenient both for access to the stadium and for hotels and entertainment within walking distance. We parked the car for the entire 3 day stay. We chose to stay on the Executive Floor at a higher room rate and I would do that again. We liked having access to the lounge at happy hour (free hor d'oeuvres and reasonable drink prices) and especially for the included breakfasts, which were fairly good. We also got free access to the YMCA in the building next door - great facility, which we used every day.

The rooms are comfortable and large. We liked free internet access and while parking is convenient in the garage next door, it is expensive ($18/day). Overall the price is higher than comparable hotels nearby but based on the extra things we wanted and used, it was a fair value.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for sharing your feedback! I was very pleased to hear that you enjoyed our centralized uptown location (also close to the Charlotte Bobcats Arena and NASCAR Hall of Fame) as well as the YMCA connected to our building and that you found the rooms to be comfortable and large. Also, I was glad to hear that you found our pricing to be a fair value based on all of the extra things we have to offer our guests. We unfortunately do not own the parking garage that is attached to our hotel and apologize that the price might be too expensive, but it does allow for unlimited in and out privileges, as well as parking the vehicle overnight. We truly appreciate your comments, and hope to welcome you back in the near future for your next weekend trip!
