The internet photo show a classy high dollar hotel. Check-in becomes reality! The Beds were HARD HARD and pillow lumpy. The air rattled even after it was fixed. The room was covered in dust. The phone was missing all the service buttons. We were supposedly in a renovated room with new furnishings, NOT! One Towel, dirty toilets, no soap, at least management moved us to the Double Tree for the the second night. The Double Tree had great beds and was perfect, felt like the Ritz.

Stayed at the Blake for a Anime convention and was really really disappointed for the price paid. Half done renovations, non working ice machines on two floors (there are only three ice machines in the first place) scary scary malfunctioning elevators, over priced food and drinks, rude staff. The parking is over priced for no one being responsible for watching over your vehicle- this place is next to a homeless shelter and the garage is in bad shape, not to mention the lights are so low its hard to drive a truck under them ( and I am talking about a light duty pick up truck). In the rooms, the bathroom is tiny, the air/heat did not work, and the beds are hard. The elevators are death traps with tin foil and plexiglass decor. I've stayed at 4 star hotels for way less- I feel totally ripped off.

We are attending the 2012 Ichibancon- a 4 day event at The Blake and wanted to share with readers how well organized and efficient the staff at the hotel has been.

Imagine a deluge of 1000+ teens dressed in their favorite Anime costumes (some very very elaborate) attending a conference with high-brow sessions taught by experts from around the country in film animation, cultural history (anthropology) and character/storyline development.

The hotel is clean (although there are the mentioned renovations here and there), the staff knowledgeable and professional and adjacent parking is affordable, convenient and well managed.

I felt very safe at all hours attending conference sessions/activities from 9am to 1am!
There was always a staff member or manager nearby to answer any question or assist.

I'm a parent in Charlotte and next year we will be staying at the hotel for this event.

My husband and I stayed at The Blake for a Carolina Panthers game. Check in was a disaster, the staff overwhelmed and frazzled. At first glance, the decor looks appealing, but under closer inspection it is cheap and dirty. The bathroom was moldy and the water was brownish. There was a good crowd of people staying there, and it was a fun atmosphere.

Pros: Free shuttle to anywhere in the uptown loop, inexpensive.
Cons: Dirty, poor service.
