Let me preface this review by saying that I am a loyal Marriott patron, having stayed in Marriott properties throughout the US. I have stayed in several Marriott properties in the Charlotte area, but because this hotel was conveniently located to the workshop I was attending I decided to stay at the Residence Inn rather than a full service property. I must say that my stay here was quite disappointing for a number of reasons. Upon check in the desk clerk was no where to be seen. Granted it was late, around 8 pm, it it seemed he was more interested in watching the news on tv rather than being attentive to greeting arriving guests. The room itself was slightly smaller than the typical Residence Inn suite and had a rather "worn" feel to it. It had the typical appointments one would expect to find in a Residence Inn suite. One couch, lounge chair, a very small coffee table, desk, chair, and in the bedroom queen size bed and two side tables. There were two flat screen tv's, one in the sitting area and one in the bedroom. The kitchen
was also typical; however, a dishwasher was not secured in place (bolted down) and moved
every time I tried to open it. The rug was stained in several places and there were crumbs left from a previous guest on the carpeting. The most disgusting thing was mildew growing in the bathtub grout. Although I reported this on the first day, it was not addressed by the management or housekeeping. I returned from my appointment late in the evening to find it untouched. I called to the front desk to complain, and housekeeping (without advising me) arrived about twenty minutes later to spray down the mildew with clorox. By this time I was trying to eat dinner and did not want to deal with the fumes as I wanted to relax and not be bothered. Perhaps this problem will be addressed after I check out, but as for my stay I showered in a tub that was not up to the standards of cleanliness that are typical of a Marriott. For what I paid for the room it should have been sparkling. I was offered no consideration for this problem. So to sum up, cleanliness of this particular property is not up to Marriott standards, rooms are beginning to have a worn look and need updating, service at check in could be improved, and rooms are overpriced for what you get. Will I stay here again? Nope. There are other properties in the Charlotte area that are less expensive, cleaner, and better managed.
Room Tip: Higher rooms tend to be less noisy.
