I found this hotel on Tripadvisor because we wanted to go stay in Charlotte for my birthday. I wanted to find the best thing for a reasonable price so I was very nervous about picking the "right" place. I definitely picked the right place though because this hotel greatly exceeded my expectations. When we got there the front desk person was very friendly, professional, and gave us lots of information about the hotel, like when breakfast was in the morning, happy hour etc. The hotel was very clean. We went to our room to set our things down and it was VERY nice and up-to-date looking. We went back downstairs to look around and they had a table with newspapers on it for the guests, a nice fitness center, a business center with a computer and printer (for free), and a touch screen "referral" center where you could look for local places to eat and attractions. It also had a printer attached to it so you could print directions if you chose someplace to go. The hotel lobby and dining room were decorated for Christmas beautifully and there were gas logs burning in the fireplace.
When we were stumped for a place to go (we wanted something very casual), we asked the front desk person who suggested a place and gave us a discount card too, which was nice. They had a shuttle service that would take you where you want to go in the city (we took it to dinner) and all we had to do was call them back to be picked up again. I knew the hotel was right next to the city, though I didn't realize it was only four blocks from the city, so once we realized that we just walked into the city after that.
The hotel was in a nice area and close to a nice area of the city too, so we didn't mind walking - there was plenty to see.
Overnight we slept well. We didn't hear a peep from anyone nearby and of course the five down pillows on the bed helped a little too :) In the morning breakfast was really nice too (sorry to say "really" and "very" so much, but it applies). There were lots of things to choose from. Oatmeal with all the fixins, cold cereal, fresh made waffles, eggs, french toast, yogurt, fruit, doughnuts, everything but grits (which I don't care about). Everything else under the sun was there though and it was good. To me the shining example of a good breakfast is good coffee and it was very good. We walked to the stadium to look around which was right next door after breakfast. When it was time to go, they had already slipped a bill under our door with a detail of our charges before breakfast, so we didn't even have to "check out." All in all it was fabulous. I am definitely going back.

What a great experience. I stayed for two days while taking a grueling two day 10 hour exam and the staff was so genuinely kind, helpful. Excellent customer service. The bell man wasn't available so the manager himself transferred my things to my room while I got my car settled. I had a stressful drive there so the refreshing lemondae they have at the front desk was welcome. THe room was immaculate. I tipped the maid the most I have ever tipped a maid. The roomwas a home away from home which was nice because I studied there all day. The kitchen was well equipped and the bed was very comfortable. I ordered room service one night and it arrived promptly, was a huge portion and good food for room service. They served free quesidillas one night for the guests for a cocktail hour/dinner. the workout room was very clean and the hotel seemed brand new and well kept. the bartender did not charge me for a cranberry juice while I was waiting for my dinner companion. After a long day of testing it was a treat to be greeted by a huge silver tray of freshly baked cookies-four different kinds! THe front staff spent time and energy helping us find an appropriate restaurant and allowed us to look at several menus. My car had problems and I had to leave early and they did not charge me for the extra night although I checked out at around 5PM and kept my things in the room all day. An excellent experience. I will start to go to the Residence Inn from now on instead of the Hampton Inn. It was also nice that they had a bar and huge hot breakfast-better than Hampton Inn and the best part was they had a complimentary shuttle to take you to restaruants; you could call them when you were done and they would pick you up.
Excellent---and I am a picky traveller.

Spent 3 nights here. Can walk to everything downtown. Right next door
to the Bank of America Stadium and across the street from Duke Energy
building.

Very nice, clean, 2 bedroom/2 bath suite with a sitting area and kitchen in between the two bedrooms. Full sized stove and fridge. Toaster, coffee maker, iron, ironing board, tea, coffee, popcorn.

Parking was $8.00 per day.

Complimentary Breakfast downstairs.

Grocery store (Harris Teeter) approximately 4-5 blocks away. Johnson & Wales University 4 blocks away.

Complimentary use of computer/internet just off the lobby -- handy for printing out airline boarding passes.

I actually stayed at this hotel almost every week from November 2004 to August 2006, as I was on a long term business project in Charlotte. It is a fantanstic hotel. It's a five minute walk to all the downtown restaurants. Like all Residence Inns, if you leave a list at the front desk, they will pick up groceries for you. This makes it much easier to eat healthy food while on the road. I think it is brilliant that Marriot does this. There is no charge for this service (although of course you pay for the groceries).

The fitness room is well maintained and better than I have found at most hotel.

There is a happy hour from 5-7, where you can get a free glass of wine or beer and often the "snack" offered is enough for a meal.

And the staff is exceptional. By the first week they were greeting me by name, remembered my preferences and made me feel right at home. Which is great when you travel as much as I do.

The rooms were spacious and had a full kitchen and living room. It really felt as if I had a mini apartment in the city. I know there were laundry facilities there as well, although I didn't use them.

I know this sounds like an advertisement for Mariott, so let me say that I have no affilitation with this hotel, except that I was a happy guest.

My family and I stayed at this hotel in Charlotte for one night recently. We were more than pleased. The lobby, restaurant/bar area, hallways, elevators, and public restrooms were immaculate. They also have an attached parking garage. The area and on site security was great; we felt very safe. The room was superb; we had a F/Q bed and a pull out sofa, with a sitting area and a full kitchen. The full sized fridge had an ice maker, which was great. They also had a shuttle service that allowed us free transportation. The only negative about this place is that it does not have a swimming pool; my daughter was looking forward to swim-but we didn't get to. Other than that, this hotel was fabulous!!!

  • Liked — The quality of the hote itself.
  • Disliked — No swimming pool; front desk staff could have been a little more courteous.
