Well, we went to Charlotte for a convention, and stayed at the Doubletree in South Park. We were initially delighted with the cleanliness, the quality of the decor, and the hospitality shown us. Unfortunately, we were booked into the few rooms that were not reserved for another much rowdier and raunchier convention that was also being held in the area.
Initially, we were in rooms a short distance away from the partiers, but an unfortunate plumbing malfunction forced us to relocate right in the middle of the fray. We had asked to be moved away as soon as possible, and it never happened, as the hotel was booked solid the entire time we were there.
If the staff had not been as incredibly helpful as they were, my scores would have been much lower. But their friendliness and attempts to help at every turn couldn't be ignored.
I just chalked this up to a learning experience to ask beforehand if there will be something going on at the hotel that I wouldn't be comfortable with my children witnessing. And, I'll still refrain from giving any Hilton hotel five stars until they abandon the practice of gouging their customers by forcing them to pay ten dollars a day for internet service when hotels of much lower quality and price provide that service free of charge.
