I booked the Ascott Inn through Orbitz early in December of 2008 to stay one night on Dec. 27th, 2008. Orbitz gave me an estimated cost of $89 for the stay. During the week before my trip, I was charged over $136 on my credit card by the hotel. I had planned on meeting a friend in Charlotte. The day of the reservation, my friend made it to the hotel before I did, and the hotel allowed my friend to take my room without my knowing. My friend did not have any information about me other than my name, yet was still able to get my room. My friend called me and told me that he already checked into my room. The manager required me to pay $20 to park at the hotel. It bothered me that the Ascott Inn allowed someone other than me to check in to a room I had reserved and paid for, not to mention having to pay the extra $20 to park. As for the parking, I had to park specifically where the manager told me to park otherwise I would get towed. Once I got to the room that they gave to my friend, I was even more frustrated. The room was dirty, and not taken care of. the paint was coming off the walls and ceiling. The bathroom was worse. The bathtub/jacuzzi was in need of replacement. The jets did not work. The fiberglass that the tub was made of had chunks of the liner missing, and had what appeared to be some sort of mold growing around it. I was afraid to take of my shoes during the entire stay. I should have brought along a air mattress. The sheets and pillows did not match and looked like something someone had sewn together with scrap material. Each bed had one pillow. The television had some sort of problem because the screen would turn different colors while watching it. The mirror on the wall was broken. There were holes in the wall. When I turned the heater on, some sort of debris was blowing out of it. The door was difficult to lock, and appeared to have been broken into before. Check out was 12pm, but I was forced to leave at 11 am. I strongly recommend avoiding the Ascott Inn.
A stay at the Ascot Inn is completely worth the experience for the use of the pool alone. While you may ask 'what pool?' at first glance , you will soon realize that the new 'garden' (complete with birdhouses for that backyard feel) is curiously shaped in a familiar rectangle and for some reason there are a few no diving signs, because honestly I was thinking about diving right into that sad sight of vegetation every second of my stay.
Now lets get down to the room itself. We were slightly disappointed when we looked at the room next to ours and saw the glittered walls and heart-shaped bathtub and found that ours did not have such class, but after we redecorated with stolen signs from around the Charlotte area and a statue of a saint holding a dove that we had acquired a few weeks before that happened to be in my trunk, well it felt just like home.
Location is always a very important factor in these decisions and I have to say you cannot complain. It can be found right on Tryon Street and is a very short walk and almost non-existent drive from the lovely downtown area of Charlotte. Plus if you are looking for some entertainment or a late night snack or both the building exactly next door is Uptown Cabaret. This fine establishment offers for the incredibly reasonable price of $6 both fine women in their bare essentials and also a breakfast buffet that is in fact delicious and stays open until 3 am to ensure that both of your hungers are placated.
The hotel staff was very friendly.
The other patrons of the hotel were also most enjoyable. For example Kiki and her boyfriend and the time we shared smoking on the balcony at 5 am. Or the young couple we met upon checking out whose car had been mysteriously cleaned during the night. And by that I mean nothing bad like things got stolen, but actually washed, which perhaps had something to do with a fire extinguisher, a garden hose and the attached sprinkler.
Truly one of the best experiences ever to be had.
This is literally the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. We actually forfeited our money and drove 2 hours home. It is located right next to a strip club, the 2nd rule on the hotel rule list was "no prostitution". It was not sanitary at all. I had to fix the faucet on the jacuzzi myself after it leaked a half an inch of water around the tub. Then another upstanding "patron" of the hotel called our room and offered us sex acts. SERIOUSLY, steer clear of this hotel!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless your idea of a good time is getting loaded up on drugs, renting a hooker, and you need a room for an hour but feel like paying $120 for a creepy room.
