A stay at the Ascot Inn is completely worth the experience for the use of the pool alone. While you may ask 'what pool?' at first glance , you will soon realize that the new 'garden' (complete with birdhouses for that backyard feel) is curiously shaped in a familiar rectangle and for some reason there are a few no diving signs, because honestly I was thinking about diving right into that sad sight of vegetation every second of my stay.
Now lets get down to the room itself. We were slightly disappointed when we looked at the room next to ours and saw the glittered walls and heart-shaped bathtub and found that ours did not have such class, but after we redecorated with stolen signs from around the Charlotte area and a statue of a saint holding a dove that we had acquired a few weeks before that happened to be in my trunk, well it felt just like home.
Location is always a very important factor in these decisions and I have to say you cannot complain. It can be found right on Tryon Street and is a very short walk and almost non-existent drive from the lovely downtown area of Charlotte. Plus if you are looking for some entertainment or a late night snack or both the building exactly next door is Uptown Cabaret. This fine establishment offers for the incredibly reasonable price of $6 both fine women in their bare essentials and also a breakfast buffet that is in fact delicious and stays open until 3 am to ensure that both of your hungers are placated.
The hotel staff was very friendly.
The other patrons of the hotel were also most enjoyable. For example Kiki and her boyfriend and the time we shared smoking on the balcony at 5 am. Or the young couple we met upon checking out whose car had been mysteriously cleaned during the night. And by that I mean nothing bad like things got stolen, but actually washed, which perhaps had something to do with a fire extinguisher, a garden hose and the attached sprinkler.
Truly one of the best experiences ever to be had.
