“Great experience, superior customer service”

I was a bit apprehensive to stay here after reading the reviews, and I contacted the manager with my concerns. As a result, the staff went far above and beyond to make my stay - which was to rest before and after one day surgery - comfortable. Not only was my request honored for a quiet room location, but they sent me a goodie bag for my surgery upon arrival (complete with a deck of cards!) and a get well card from the staff when I got back from surgery. Really, what more can you ask for? I can see where some concerns mentioned have merit, and I believe this is because the door specs are not well-aligned with the carpet height resulting in a gap under the door. Maybe those draft stoppers would help reduce noise. But I found that if you ask for a quiet room, you get one plain and simple, and I'd definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Request a high floor, without an adjoining door, odd number room (facing away from epicenter), at or...

“Great room - But very loud hall noise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Kind of a funky concept. I have never really liked the soap dispenser concept in the shower so that is not great. Room nice, bed comfortable, great TV and LOVED that the blinds are easy and make the room dark.

However - the hall noise is awful You can hear every word people say. Doors shutting sound like a canon going off. I think the design on that aspect is very flawed. Need sound absorbing material in a hall and that was sorely lacking.

Room Tip: Bring Earplugs

Dear NCPete,
Thanks for your candid and positive feedback! Our talent works hard to provide unparalled service to our guests and your comments help fuel the fire! I accept that some of the "nuances" associated with this brand don't appeal to all takers, though I appreciate the kind manner in which you shared your thoughts. We will take a good look at alternative means of creating a quieter environment for our guests. I do hope to have another opportunity of serving you in the near future.

“Close to perfect!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Another hotel in W Hotel group of Starwood, it appears the Aloft is a scaled down experience from the W Hotels (see previous review). The hotel is part of the Epicenter which means it is in the center of downtown and close to lots of dining options.

The hotel has a very contemporary vibe (something I enjoy). The lounge was no where as busy as the W in Chicago. The lobby featured a pool table for those so inclined.

Additionally, there was an incredibly well stocked place to buy a wide variety of food items for breakfast or light (sandwich) meals. The wrap I purchased on Sunday night at 10pm was fresh and tasty.

The staff was pleasant and cheerful.

There were only two small problems:
1. My heating unit would not heat the room. I maintenance person was quickly dispatched and the problem was corrected. The maintenance person was polite and engaging... a good representative for the hotel.

2. On my departure day, during peak time, there was only one person serving the front desk... and dealing with another guests problems...and I needed to leave as I was running late. This was compounded by the person waiting on another guest ahead of me, out of sequence. I can't impress upon hotel staff enough the importance to be properly staffed for peak loads and to take people in sequence. A small nit, to some, but when you are late, it is a nit that matters.

The hotel is on my employer's preferred list and so I plan to stay there again when I travel to Charlotte. Also, I'd seek out other Alofts in other cities.

Room Tip: It is interesting to have a room facing the Epicenter's courtyard to watch people, but it can ge...

“Good hotel, lousy surroundings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

The hotel itself is reasonably nice - central, clean and well kept, reasonably priced, and allows dogs. The staff is really friendly too. We had some problems during our trip though - I can't fault the hotel but I wouldn't stay here again. First off, the parking is a public garage which was too low for our roof carrier. We had to take it off and stow it inside the car. We were woken up the first night at 3am by singing neighbors (the walls are paper thin) - to its credit the hotel security quickly quieted them up after we called the front desk. Finally there are a bunch of bars in the Epicentre complex - we were there on a weekend evening and it was ... boisterous.

If none of that bothers you, it's not a bad option.

Dear rcktMAN,
I am so glad to hear that the service within our control was appreciated; primarily relative to cleanliness and friendliness. On the flip side, I am so sorry to hear of the challenges that you encountered with the roof-top car carrier and next-door impromptu singers! Our "hip" location and hotel invites a celebratory crowd at times; I apologize for any inconvenience you experienced. I do hope you will reconsider a future stay with us as I believe that our talent is the best in Charlotte..though I am admittedly a bit biased. :)

“A Great Deal in the Center of the Action”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Aloft is a great value hotel right in EpiCenter—an area full of restaurants and entertainment in the center of Charlotte. Aloft is a comfortable, clean, and conveniently located 3-star hotel. The staff is friendly. The room was spacious and bed was quite comfortable. The bathroom/shower were also clean. The only weird thing was that the sliding door to the bathroom didn’t close all the way (by design). A nice touch is that there were a couple of complementary bottles of water in the room. There’s a nice hotel bar with a good selection of liquors and a decent draft beer selection. Parking is not included, but there are several parking garages in the area. Breakfast is not included but there is a little store to buy refreshments in the lobby. Coffee is available all day. Highly recommend it!
