We stayed at this hotel - our first time in a Wyndham property - on a trip south and again on our return north, during the holidays. We arrived shortly before 10 PM after a long drive, and were told that our reservations, one room in our name and one room in our daughter's name, had an additional room reserved and charged to us, through the travel website that we had used to book the hotels on our trip. It took at least 45 minutes, and a long phone call to attempt to clarify the reservation. In the end, this wasn't done, and the very frustrated girl checking us in, was upset with us and the agent from the travel website, and proceeded to curse, as she stood directly in front of us. We were given our room keys, and told that the hotel could do nothing to rectify the situation, and that we "would have to deal with it". We proceeded to our rooms with three very tired, young children. Before we left the front desk, we asked the girl to please check our return reservations to make sure that we would not encounter the same problem. We were told the next week's reservations were for the two rooms we had booked, and we were admonished by this girl and another clerk, not to use a third party to book hotel rooms, but to call the hotel directly next time because "this always happens". We have used travel websites intermittently for years and have never had this situation.
We found our rooms very large, clean and comfortable for our needs. Breakfast was enjoyed by those who went down the next morning. We were pleased with our stay and decided to put our poor first impression and the girl's rudeness behind us, as we decided to return the next week as planned.
When we returned, we found ourselves in the exact same situation, despite assurances that our reservations were as originally booked. This time the clerk just gave us our keys and once again told us not to use travel websites. Unfortunately this particular room was a bit shabby, with a three foot, poorly repaired crack in the shower panel immediately noticeable. But again, the room suited our needs for the most part, and we left the next day having to once again deal with two additional rooms we did not ask for.
Both I, and the travel website have contacted the general manager of the hotel about this situation, and he has graciously agreed to credit us for the unreserved rooms. It's such a shame that our experience in a nice hotel had to be marred by front desk personnel who were unable to efficiently and professionally manage an awkward situation, without making the guest feel guilty about their choice of travel planning. Also, such unprofessional behavior, such as showing frustration and cursing in front of a guest is inexcusable. I would hope that perhaps re-training or replacing such staff might provide future guests with a much improved first impression of the hotel.
