“Best Rate, great breakfast, good room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Don't let the address fool you, the hotel is on Tyvola Road at Nations Ford. Our GPS did not recognize the street address which is actually a named driveway. We got our room for less than $60 and it was a nice big room (not a suite) with a mini frige and microwave. The breakfast was great with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, waffle station and a good variety of standard fair like cereals and breads and juices. Even though the hotel was full, the breakfast area was kept clean and fully stocked. The only disappointment was the hot tub was out of service. We didn't check out the small indoor pool or the small exercise room but they were there. The business center had two computers and printers.

“Good Enough for a night's stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We checked into the Wingate Airport South for a night's stay before an early morning flight the following day. We had a smooth check-in and that is about where the positive ends. The room was average but did have a bit of wear and tear. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed we've slept on in a long time and the sheets could use some refreshing (rough, scratchy and just not what I think of when I think of the Wyndham brand). We happened to be right in the flight path of the planes taking off and between the sound of the jets and the extremely loud a/c unit there was not much sleep to be had.

Upon check-out we brought the a/c unit to the desk attendants attention and he didn't seem concerned or that he was going to make note of it.

Unfortunately we won't stay her again.

“Comfortable and Convenient Location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Pros:
Competent staff, well appointed rooms, hot breakfast, refrigerator, microwave, wi-fi, convenient location.

Cons:
Refrigerator was turned off, tricky turn to reach Tyvola Rd. South.

Hints:
If using refrigerator be sure to check refrigerator thermostat is set to "on" position. To reach Tyvola Rd. South, turn left from hotel entrance and drive around to Nations Ford Rd., turn left and then drive to traffic light on Tyvola, turn left.

We like this chain of hotels. No matter where we go, this hotel offers above average accomodations at slightly above average rates. For us the big draw is the hot breakfast where those who watch their weight can have a high protein low carb breakfast consisting of eggs and sausage. Of course, there are plenty of choices in the high carb category as well. Five stars for the breakfast buffet.

Check-in/out was efficient and friendly. Somehow, all the staff seems to go out of their way to be welcoming. It is a nice touch. Five stars for the staff.

The room is very well appointed with very comfortable bed, an office space with wi-fi and hard wire internet service. I did have a little trouble with the wi-fi dropping out occasionally. No really big problem here. The heating/cooling system was quiet and efficient; no rumbling noise of compressor turning on and off. In addition to the usual amenities of flat screen television, iron, ironing board, etc., the room featured a mini-fridge and microwave. Here the hotel loses its fifth star for us. The refrigerator was turned off and we didn't notice it until the next day when we pulled out a warm beer. We understand energy conservation but what is the point of offering a refrigerator if it's turned off and it takes hours for it to come down to temperature? The room was quiet with no problems sleeping. The curtains blocked out light efficiently.

Reaching I-77 from this hotel can be tricky because it involves turning left onto Tyvola South. Turning right from the hotel entrance, the logical thing to do, takes you to Tyvola where the only available turn is a right turn going north. One then has to make a U-turn at the first available occasion. The better way is to turn left out of the driveway, drive around the back and turn left onto Nations Ford Rd., and then turn left onto Tyvola South at the traffic light.

In spite of all these positive comments, the turned off refrigerator brings the overall hotel score down to four stars. Sorry.

“The Good and the Bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel - our first time in a Wyndham property - on a trip south and again on our return north, during the holidays. We arrived shortly before 10 PM after a long drive, and were told that our reservations, one room in our name and one room in our daughter's name, had an additional room reserved and charged to us, through the travel website that we had used to book the hotels on our trip. It took at least 45 minutes, and a long phone call to attempt to clarify the reservation. In the end, this wasn't done, and the very frustrated girl checking us in, was upset with us and the agent from the travel website, and proceeded to curse, as she stood directly in front of us. We were given our room keys, and told that the hotel could do nothing to rectify the situation, and that we "would have to deal with it". We proceeded to our rooms with three very tired, young children. Before we left the front desk, we asked the girl to please check our return reservations to make sure that we would not encounter the same problem. We were told the next week's reservations were for the two rooms we had booked, and we were admonished by this girl and another clerk, not to use a third party to book hotel rooms, but to call the hotel directly next time because "this always happens". We have used travel websites intermittently for years and have never had this situation.

We found our rooms very large, clean and comfortable for our needs. Breakfast was enjoyed by those who went down the next morning. We were pleased with our stay and decided to put our poor first impression and the girl's rudeness behind us, as we decided to return the next week as planned.

When we returned, we found ourselves in the exact same situation, despite assurances that our reservations were as originally booked. This time the clerk just gave us our keys and once again told us not to use travel websites. Unfortunately this particular room was a bit shabby, with a three foot, poorly repaired crack in the shower panel immediately noticeable. But again, the room suited our needs for the most part, and we left the next day having to once again deal with two additional rooms we did not ask for.

Both I, and the travel website have contacted the general manager of the hotel about this situation, and he has graciously agreed to credit us for the unreserved rooms. It's such a shame that our experience in a nice hotel had to be marred by front desk personnel who were unable to efficiently and professionally manage an awkward situation, without making the guest feel guilty about their choice of travel planning. Also, such unprofessional behavior, such as showing frustration and cursing in front of a guest is inexcusable. I would hope that perhaps re-training or replacing such staff might provide future guests with a much improved first impression of the hotel.
