“A standard marriott, just don't ask for travel advice!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

The Courtyard Marriott in the Ballantyne estate was a great location for visiting nearby offices, (but a long way from the centre). The lobby looked fairly newly decorated and was modern and nice enough. The rooms were as expected and a good size, though a colleague had a room opposite the lift which was smaller, but did have balcony space. I was towards the end of the corridor without a balcony and had loads of space in the room, which I thought was great.
The rooms have the sink outside the bathroom, but behind the wardrobe so not a huge problem. Everything was kept very clean.
Free wifi was very useful.
I didn't use the pool or hot tub, but it looked fine.
We did ask for a taxi and they offered a local shuttle service which was free, though I did find the driving a little erratic. When going further afield, they arranged a taxi, but this was not a good service. The driver ran a red light nearly had an accident, couldn't find where we were going CM15 and even when it was in sight went the wrong way. I also think compared to other journeys it was too expensive. Whilst not the marriotts fault, I would have thought they would only recommend/ arrange services that are safe and reasonable. Another time they recommended a bus trip, providing a time table which was incorrect.

“Good, Less Expensive, Alternative to The Ballantyne”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

My grandmother used to stay here when she visited Charlotte instead of staying at the Ballantyne Resort, which is usually a little more expensive. The Courtyard is in a great location--within walking distance to Ballantyne Village (Movie theater, Kilwins, Mellow Mushroom, Panera, Villa Antonio (upscale italian)), and a host of other attractions. The rooms are nice, it seems like they were remodeled a short time ago. The lobby has just been upgraded (When we stayed it was not), but from other Courtyard experiences, the lobby is a great addition, with a fresh little restaurant, and a very cool GoBoard, which allows one to see weather, attractions, etc. The Courtyard is a good alternative to the Ballantyne Resort.

Room Tip: Face the back of the hotel, nice view.

“Just for Fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

My husband I an went to Charlotte for the night to enjoy a restaurant and wine and stayed at the Courtyard Charlotte Ballantyne. Even though the lobby was in disarray due to a construction project our stay was very nice. The reception desk staff were very friently, smiling and talking about the new look of the lobby-which was very nice. The room had extra towels it was quiet and had great black out curtains.
We did smell smoke in the hallway coming out of one of the rooms down the hall but didn't smell it in our room at all. Never a pleasant thing regardless.
I would definitely recommend the hotel. On an aside, we received an email prior to our stay about the construction in the lobby which was a very nice touch.

Dear Charlestonluvit,
We are thrilled that you got a chance to see our new space being remodeled. It is definitely such an amazing journey that we have enjoyed being on and we cannot wait to see it complete. Please know we are in full support of Marriott's smoke free policy and have been a smoke free hotel for many years. I understand how the smell of smoke coming from another room can be unpleasant.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us and we hope to see you and your husband again when you venture to Charlotte.

Sincerely,
Angie King

“Home away from home...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

I've been staying at this hotel regularly for 8 years now. The staff is friendly, competent and helpful and I wholeheartedly endorse this Courtyard to anyone traveling in the area. If there is one caveat, it would be that the location dictates higher prices than most Courtyards. The close shops and amenities and the ability to use facilities at the Ballantyne Resort cap off an exceptional hotel experience.

“Seamless and pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

We picked the Courtyard when we wanted a comfortable place in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte. It turned out to be very satisfactory, despite the fact that work going on in the public areas made the entrance a cramped hallway. They managed to provide coffee and cookies neatly organized on one side, and they had junk food of various kinds for sale beside the reception counter. The service was great: All the staff weren't just polite, they were really pleasant and helpful.

Here's what I liked:
- The room was spacious and clean. It had a nice desk with a second pullout desk below it so you could make a comfortable office set-up.
- The free wifi internet worked well.
- The location was really convenient. Not scenic by any means, but close to restaurants, shops, the gas station, and the freeway.
- The website warned of the lobby renovation IN ADVANCE so I was prepared to find it closed off.
- The indoor swimming pool looked nice, though I didn't actually go in.

Here's what I didn't like so much:
- The bathroom was small, and split into a washbasin outside, loo and shower inside. (But it was well-maintained and worked fine.)
- The room had only one chair, which I would not have noticed if I'd been alone. But not so nice for couples.
- The place could do with some beautification inside and out -- plants, flowers, pictures etc. It's forgettably bland. Maybe the lobby renovation will fix that.

Greetings 09876,
Thank you so much for such detailed feedback regarding your experience at the Courtyard Ballantyne. Communication is very important to us and I am delighted that the information regarding construction was easy to find. We are offering a complimentary continental breakfast to all our guests as a thank you for being a part of this amazing journey.

The Lobby re-invention is a Marriott initiative for all Courtyards with the guests' changing expectations in mind. We cannot wait to unveil a ‘living space’ lobby featuring a 52” information touch screen and casual dining at The Bistro by the end of the year.

We did close the areas under construction and have recently completed an entire art wall which showcases each element of the new lobby making the space more colorful and cheerful.

Thank you once again for taking the time to recount your experience and giving kudos to the wonderful Ballantyne Team and the service we deliver. We look forward to welcoming you back.

Regards
Shalini Iyer
