“Checked in... went to the beach, went back to the room... and RAN home!”
My friends came to visit from NH and really wanted to go to the beach. I live 2.5 hrs. from the beach, so we certainly did not want to drive home. We found this place online and it looked cute and clean (must have been old pictures). We got there and checked-in. I should have known something was wrong when they charged my card before I even looked at the room. Anyway, we dropped our bags in the room and went to the beach since the kids were anxious to play, our first reaction to the room was, "it looks old" (old I can deal with, dirty I can not). When we got back to the room 4 hrs. later to take showers we realized that the kitchen floors were dirty with spots, the carpet was ripped, the molding around the shower was rotting, the blinds were broken and falling apart, the windows were dirty, the furniture was very old, the wood swing on the porch had rusty nails sticking out of it (which I sat on without realizing it!), we were curious, to see what was under the old comforters and pillow shams and discovered a disgusting yellow stained pillow when we removed the case (we didn't even bother to check out the mattresses) at this point we saw enough! I went to the office to ask if I could have my money back because there was no way we were going to sleep there, and the office was locked. I called the emergency number they provided at check-in and the lady came to my room to see what was wrong with it. She came in and said "I will tell you right now, you are not going to get your money back, but I will clean whatever is dirty in the room". I said that it was more than just dirty, it was a safety hazard and unsanitary and that we just wanted to go home. Then as I was packing up the car, the owner rudely confronted me and said "this is no Holiday Inn, hotel or motel. this is a family inn and that room is the cleanest room you're gonna find" he went on to say, if I wanted to switch rooms to talk to his daughter in the office. I replied by saying "I already talked to her and she was not very nice to me and never offered to switch rooms and thank you sir, but I just want to go home now".
Needless to say this was a horrible experience and we drove home!
