With todays technology being right at your fingertips, I take total advantage of reviews! Most restaurants are a hit, movies can definitely be a miss, but places to stay can be a gamble. I read all the reviews, but I knew not to set my expectations too high. I like to choose places that are out of the normal sterotype vacations, that carry some kind of uniqueness and character. The Inn on Pamlico Sound is not only a beautiful and romantic place, it offers a homey and cozy feel as well.
We stayed the week right after Christmas, the weather could not have been better, going in the off season, made it feel as though we practically had the island to ourselves.
Each day we had something planned, before we left we took water and a snack from the well stocked fridge in the lobby.
Sometimes we would make it back in the mid-afternoon and find baked cookies to tide us over for dinner. We drove to Manteo one day and visited the aquarium and Elizabethan gardens, they had the winter lights that week and it was one of our highlights of the trip. We took the wild horse adventure tour enjoyed seeing the horses on the beach, but it was the humor of the tour guide that really made that interesting . We visited the cape hatteras national seashore, the camp grounds were closed to the public but the deer took total advantage of that and were everywhere. We were there celebrating our first anniversary on the New Years Eve, our waiter in the evening was usually Ian, he was informative about the Island, very personable and friendly personality. Every dinner there was delicious.
We had mentioned to Steve, (the inn keeper) we were Dallas cowboy fans, he made sure to have the game on in the theater room on New Years day. We really liked the entire staff, they make sure you are well taken care of, and took care of anything we needed. The only thing I missed was my daily fix on my treadmill, but the walks on the beach made up for some of that. We would like to come back one day, but perhaps in the fall or spring next time. From the people to the beauty of the Island you really can not go wrong with this place!
