While I have never stayed in this hotel, I have been inside the rooms, and spent time there with family and friends. Most people go to the island wondering where all the "chain" hotels and restaurants are. If you are a fan of Myrtle Beach or Seaside, NJ, Hatteras is not the place for you. It's all about relaxing, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. That having been said, this WAS the one and only chain hotel on the island. It was a joke when it was put up, and did nothing to change that over it's time as a Comfort Inn. Expensive is an understatement. For over $150/night, you got a tiny room, with nothing more than a mini fridge and maybe a clean shower if you were lucky. Now, if you stay at Lighthouse View, Cape Hatteras Motel, Outer Banks Motel, etc., you will be pleasantly surprised. Nice CLEAN rooms. More room options such as apartments, townhouses, etc. They are oceanfront, unlike the Comfort Inn, which tried to say they were (more like a couple hundred yards away). The local places all have pools, and most have jacuzzis. PLUS, you will get a true local at the front desk who can tell you the real places to visit and eat. The fact that Choice Hotels dropped this Comfort Inn does not surprise me in the least. I know Best Western has purchased the property with plans of redoing it. My suggestion would be to bulldoze the building, and sell the land to a local hotel or shop.
