“Stay at the local hotels, you'll be happy you did.”

While I have never stayed in this hotel, I have been inside the rooms, and spent time there with family and friends. Most people go to the island wondering where all the "chain" hotels and restaurants are. If you are a fan of Myrtle Beach or Seaside, NJ, Hatteras is not the place for you. It's all about relaxing, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. That having been said, this WAS the one and only chain hotel on the island. It was a joke when it was put up, and did nothing to change that over it's time as a Comfort Inn. Expensive is an understatement. For over $150/night, you got a tiny room, with nothing more than a mini fridge and maybe a clean shower if you were lucky. Now, if you stay at Lighthouse View, Cape Hatteras Motel, Outer Banks Motel, etc., you will be pleasantly surprised. Nice CLEAN rooms. More room options such as apartments, townhouses, etc. They are oceanfront, unlike the Comfort Inn, which tried to say they were (more like a couple hundred yards away). The local places all have pools, and most have jacuzzis. PLUS, you will get a true local at the front desk who can tell you the real places to visit and eat. The fact that Choice Hotels dropped this Comfort Inn does not surprise me in the least. I know Best Western has purchased the property with plans of redoing it. My suggestion would be to bulldoze the building, and sell the land to a local hotel or shop.

Room Tip: Stay at a local hotel.

“BED BUGS!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

ATTENTION: STAY AWAY! This place has BED BUGS! I stayed here for one night and woke up the next morning with bed bug bites all over me. This place also charges $150+ per night in the summer... just because they can. It's one of the few motels in Cape Hatteras, so visitors don't have a lot of options. Way overpriced and disgusting. Take the time and find somewhere else! I promise, you will be beyond dissapointed if you stay here.

“clean but pricey for the value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

I wasn't familiar with this area of the Outer Banks, and was desparate for an economical place to stay a couple of nights in mid-August. Price of $150+/night was not appropriate for this quality of lodging. The motel was clean, room was clean; offered complimentary breakfast; wi-fi only available in lobby area. Price should have been no more than $85/night. This motel would probably rate a 2-star in AAA ratings. Outside door entrances to rooms. We had a first floor room which was convenient to getting to your car, as we could park right outside our door. Desk clerks were nice and helpful. The buildings and rooms are somewhat dated and could use a remodeling. tNeatest thing about the motel is they have an observation tower/deck built over the roof and the view from there is pretty neat. This area (as well as the entire island) was sparsely populated and not much available - not many choices for lodging, so this place is probably the best choice available. Definitely convenient to the Hatteras Island lighthhouse, and ocean is within walking distance; motel is not located on the ocean. Not a lot of choices for eating out, either. Not much available for nighttime entertainment, either - about the only thing we found to do was minature golf.

“Hotel changed name - did guests wrong”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We recently had our wedding in Buxton, NC, and several of our guests had reservations at this hotel (although we did not personally stay in this hotel).

One of our guests, who had driven overnight to get there, had made a reservation at this "Comfort Inn" to take advantage of a coupon or discount stay (can't recall which) which he had received through Choice Hotels. However, upon our guest's arrival, we were surprised to find out that the hotel had, the day before, changed its name and de-branded from the "Comfort Inn" to another name.

Of course, because of this name change, the front desk attendant rudely informed our guest that his room discount/coupon would not be honored, even though he had placed his reservation with the hotel while it was still a Comfort Inn.

There was, however, a positive outcome. Our guest went next door to the Lighthouse View and got an oceanside room for much less than the "Comfort Inn" was charging for a room with a beautiful view of the parking lot.

Even though I did not personally stay in this hotel, I can state that I cannot recommend this hotel on the basis of the rude attitude of the staff member we encountered and the shady tactic of relying on a change in hotel name to refuse to honor a discount.

“i love this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

i come here 1-2 times a year. we always enjoy oiurselves and the front desk gang is always the nicest ever. free breakfast too! love the view from the built in "lighthouse" where you can see forever. nice pool and beach is just a walk away, as are plenty of fine restaurants, desserts, supplies, mini-golf, etc. park here and dont drive all week!

Room Tip: sweet and simple here. nothing fancy. one side faces the pool/beach, other side doesnt.
