“No refund if you have to cancel due to hurricane threat a day in advance.”

This place is very old and yet very clean. Some of the rooms aren't so nice while others are very charming. The price is good. Only problem is they will not give you a refund if you cancel in advance unless you cancel at least a full week in advance. Unfortunately, the hurricane threat on the coast of North Carolina caused the cancelling of two rooms. We were expecting guests from there for my daughters' wedding. They were going to pay me back when they arrived. Two days before the wedding I got a call claiming the hurricane threat was real and so they could not come to the wedding. This seems very understandable. I went immediately to the Riverbend Lodging and asked for a refund. The manager told me "No, you must cancel at least a week in advance." I tried explaining there was no way to know about the hurricane; he still was adamant. I could NOT get my money back. WARNING to all who travel here. Check the fineprint concerning refunds in case of emergency!!!!

“Nice setting, but a little overpriced”

This "mom-and-pop" motel sits right on the river, literally just a few steps outside the room is the Tuckasegee River. A lot of "regulars" tend to stay there and several guests were taking advantage of the grills to cookout and enjoy supper on the banks of the river. We enjoyed sitting by the river at dusk and watching the beaver, some ducks and a nightly visit by a river otter. Fishing or at least feeding the fish with some bread is also enoyable for all ages.

Accomodations were adequate for this type of road-side motel. The room was clean and A/C worked well. Our room had two double beds, arranged in a unique position. Had to ask for more towels, but Jack (the owner, along with Julie) was right on our request. Room had a small refrigerator, microwave and 4-cup coffee maker. TV had plenty of options, which our teenage daughters enjoyed.

Including tax, our room ended up costing approx. $92, which in my opinion is rather high for this type of motel. No AAA discount offered or any other discounts I could determine. There is no continental breakfast included, another reason the $92 seems high for "just a motel room."

Enjoy the ambiance. It's convenient to Cherokee and lots of outdoor activities in western N.C.

“VERY CLEAN, VERY NICE, QUAINT PLACE TO STAY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2010

We just returned from a trip to NC Mountains and dropped in on Jack at the Riverbend Lodging. We had absolutely NO problems with checking-in, our stay or checking-out. Jack was a true gentleman, very polite and helpful. We did not have any problems at all. Our room was larger than we expected with two double beds, a recliner, table and chairs, microwave, refrigerator, TV and clean room and clean bathroom. Sheets and towels were clean, appeared new and fresh smelling. Nothing stale about our linen or room. We only stayed for two nights but would have been very comfortable here for an extended stay. The deck was right on the river which was very relaxing. There were grills provided on the deck for each room if you preferred to eat in or eat your catch as fishing tackle was available for rent at a very reasonable rate. You could fish right at your own deck, watch the river or the train as it left town. WiFi was available but we were not able to connect, don't know if it was our problem or theirs but it did not cause any inconvenience. I have actually already recommended this motel to a friend.

“A Great Mountain Experience”

I was first blown away at how nice and polite jack was over the phone with making reservations for me and my friends. When we arrived, I was not only appreciative of the gorgeous view of the mountans but also with the hospitality at the Riverbend Lodge. The rooms were clean and well kept during our 3 day stay. We were enlightened on the best and affordable tourist attractions. All in all, it felt like home without being home. Jack and Jill are amazing people and look forward to visiting again real soon!

“Property looked very inviting”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2008

We also had a negative experience when we stopped and inquired about room availability and rates.

We feel that we were treated very rudely and actually felt like we were being talked down to.

Needless to say, we did not choose to stay at this property and would never recommend it to any of our family, friends or business associates.
