We checked in having had 2 rooms reserved for us by volunteers. The rooms were dirty, one room had trash in it, no clean towels, the beds were unmade and dirty and the smell in both rooms was horrendous.
Luckily we reserved a room at a much nicer hotel for our attorney colleague who was attending the same event in town we were.
As board members of a state non profit organization, you would think the staff would at least attend to make amends in some way, but they even refused to give us a discount for the dirty rooms, stating they had offered two disabled men an upstairs room in exchange!!!!
We know now WHERE NOT TO STAY IN BOONE!!!!!!

Visited for Gr. Mtn Scottish Games.
Not the worst experience that any reviewer had...but close.
- Used underwear on bathroom floor. Nice.....
- When I checked at desk for a phone book (none in room), the meth-addict on duty shrugged and said "Dont' got none". I just then noticed a pile of at least 100x DEC '08 local phone books under a nearby table.
- Can confirm "that smell". Hopeful nobody bitten by bed-bugs.
"* Would you recommend this hotel to a friend?" Yes. but only as a practical joke....

paid went to the room door was wide open a big exhust fan on the table smelled nasty and the room was a mess with plastic and dry wall on floor. went back to the front desk he said he would remove the fan for us. got the money back and left that hole in the wall.

Well, the reviews of the Scottish Inn are scary to say the least and it took us a long time to come to the conclusion to keep our commitment at stay here for one night. After all the negativity was pushed to the side we had a great time in Boone. The hotel was close to everything and we were able to walk to dinner (but we didn't) and to a local watering hole for beverages (we did walk there). Side Note - The Library is a great place to kick back and enjoy a few frosty beverages, the owner and the manager are good people. Back to the Hotel - it was OK, didn’t smell horrible, the TV worked and 2 out of the 4 of us had hot water. Put it this way, it beats sleeping in a tent. Were the employees a little scary??? - yes, (but most meth addicts are) but they didn't bother us a bit. I would definitely stay there again even if not forced to. Believe me it’s not for everyone, I would take by toddlers along but for four guys headed to a Nascar event or football game - GAME ON - Scottish Inn.
