I would liken Maple Lodge to the Beast's castle in Beauty and the Beast: everything functions smoothly here in this lovely haven in downtown Blowing Rock, but at least while we were there nobody seemed to be actually in charge. Unlike other B&B's where we have stayed, the owners live off premises and have a staff of charming young women who do the breakfast and make up the rooms. There is someone on call and while we were there that was a friend of the owners who was staying right next door and came over immediately when I could not figure out how to use the shower.
The breakfast is outstanding and ample with a coffee, fruit and pastry buffet followed by the breakfast entree of the day. In late afternoon, the girls laid out scumptious goodies like brownies or choc chip cookies. You cannot beat the location of Maple Lodge, either, since it is just off the main street of Blowing Rock, within easy walking distance of lots of restaurants and shopping. For us as hikers, its proximity to Linville Gorge was another plus.
