“A Gem Among Hotels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

After staying at this hotel, I plan on returning. The owners made us feel welcome and the rooms were spacious yet cozy after several long days of skiing. The hotel was located right down the road from Appalachian Ski Resort which made getting back and forth easy. The rooms were perfect for a family of 5 where everyone didn't feel cramped. We would reccommend this hotel to others who travel to the area. Even after we were heading out, Jerry(the owner) gave us several ideas of what to do and where to eat. Thanks again for a great stay. We'll see you this summer!

“Oldfashioned. But not in a good way.”

We chose this motel as we drove by and needed a place to stay. The price was fair (around $80). As said in other reviews: this is an oldschool motel, not the usual chain-motel. This can be a good thing, but in this case it wasn't.

Our room (and I guess the others as well) are worn and tired. The beds, the ceiling, the walls, the floor. It is not really dirty, but it is so-so. Just like the shower area: painted, but it looked sad.

The 'balcony' is more a throughway for all other motel-guests, so there is absolutely no privacy.

In the morning we saw that the view from the room/balcony was pretty OK, but it is not enough to cover up for the rest of the experience.

Would not recommend this, would not stay again.

“There must be better options in Blowing Rock”

Based on the website and the price, we were looking forward to staying here. We were disappointed. The hotel is perched on the side of a hill above the US 321 bypass. The rooms have access to balconies that have modestly pretty views to the left, but overlook an outlet mall to the right. Smoking is allowed on the balconies, and the ashtray on our balcony had been emptied, but not washed. Although the room was fairly large, there was only one chair in it.
No one had cleaned under our bed for quite a while.
I do not want to give the impression that this is a horrible motel. It is not. Its just that at the price they charged, we expected better.

“An unpleasant experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

The welcome was weak – the reception was tucked away and when we arrived there was no one else there but we were given directions to our room rather than shown.
The room we were originally given was horrible; it was damp and felt as if it had been shut up for a while. There were a number of dead insects on the floor.
I asked for another room and the receptionist did allocate another room without any argument. This was better, recently revamped but the bathroom was still tired and there was a feeling that some of the old features had been left or painted over rather than changed.
The boast of a wonderful view was not really a consolation in the dark and the morning view was no better than we had at a number of other locations for a cheaper room and better facilities.
The owner was helpful and friendly and directed us to a wonderful local restaurant.
However, my real annoyance was that we were charged a booking fee when I booked on line directly with the hotel.
I could not recommend this hotel and would strongly advise travellers to look for an alternative accommodation.

“Love Cliff Dwellers!”

I'm a big fan of Mom and Pop Motels and this is one of the best. Sure the place is old but that adds to that unique ambiance. As long as you understand and appreciate privately owned motels you will love this place. We got a room with one queen bed and one double bed with a party of three for $75.00 as walk ins on a Monday night in April 2010. The big deck out front has a western view which isn't the greatest but it's still great for viewing the sunset. The proprietors were so friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend and return.
Free WiFi too!
