“A Rip Off”

The Garden Room was horrible. The wall between the bathroom and the kitchen did not even go all the way up to the ceiling and then there was no real door between the bedroom and the bathroom. There was a sign up that said, "Slave's Quarters" and in deed that is what it felt like. Claudia was plain rude. We were 10 minutes "late" for breakfast and she lectured us in front of the other guests about it and then said, "Well, I guess I'll make you something to eat." My husband and I travel to that area quite a bit and have never been more disappointed. We talk about it as the worse trip we've been on. Oh, and the room was cold, cold, cold. We could never get warm.

“Best place I have ever seen!!!”

What a charming setting, with a river flowing through the property, a bridge to get to the other side, the sights and sounds were romantic!
The facilities were spotless and the food was to die for, and they have nice kittys.
This will always be my first choice when headding to the parkway for some R&R.

“A relaxed getaway in a beautiful secluded setting!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2010

My friend and I just spent one night at Sweet Seasons and loved it. Claudia was a fun, welcoming innkeeper and made us feel at home. Although our room was near hers, she gave us privacy and we did not feel uncomfortable with the close quarters. Her breakfast was spectacular. The accomodations were cozy, rustic and comfortable. Luckily, we both like cats because the cats are a part of the experience. When we arrived, we had wine and cheese waiting for us in our kitchen area. The walk to town was not too far and we enjoyed spending the day in Blowing Rock without having to look for parking. Claudia recommended a local restaurant that had outstanding food. The evening was great with time in the hot tub and music playing on outside speakers. We wished we had had time to enjoy the outdoor fire pit while listening to the music and the nearby stream. We are definitely planning to return. If you are looking for stark, sterile hotel accomodations with toast for breakfast, this is not the place for you!

“It was just the weekend we wanted”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

We just had a marvelous experience at Sweet Seasons; enjoyed Claudia, her cooking, and conversations, just had a very pleasant relaxed time. While not at the house very much during the day, we found the evenings relaxing and very accommodating for privacy and comfort. We built a fire in our room one evening, loved the private deck and babbling stream in the yard, thought the cats a fun and charming addition, our breakfasts were terrific, liked Claudia's forthrightness, her tips on sightseeing and the history of the area.

“Beautiful property, but cannot recommend”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

I visited Sweet Seasons over a long weekend with family. Two months prior we reserved two rooms located in a separate building on the property. As one room was very small, the idea was to use the other location to gather and spend time together. My first impression of the property was very positive: Beautiful location, lots of open space to relax, etc. Though Claudia, the owner, was not friendly or welcoming upon arrival--and as others have stated, she immediately asked for money--my focus was on staying in a serene setting, so she was not terribly bothersome at this point.

All was well until the morning of the second day when we were about to open the door to the breakfast area and were met by Claudia telling us she would need to move the family members to a different room. Apparently she had double-booked this particular suite, the other party was extremely upset, and she was going to inconvenience us over her error. Not to mention the other couple had stayed in another room the night before--so both parties would be packing up, one would assume both rooms would be cleaned, and this meant our family would be split between two locations on opposite ends of the property. The reason we chose to stay there was because we'd be able to stay directly next to each other and have a separate space to ourselves. As it turned out, the other guests changed their minds and agreed to stay put. My understanding is they were offered a future discounted or complimentary stay in the location they wanted, and their room the previous night was free. But had they not changed their minds, we would have paid for her mistake.

When we phoned later that day to politely let Claudia know we would not be joining her for breakfast the following two mornings as we had other plans, she seemed quite insulted. She said quite loudly, "What? You're not going to eat my breakfast? That's what I'm known for." As the paying guests enjoying a getaway of our choosing, she was not the friendly, accommodating innkeeper I'd expected to encounter, and it was a real disappointment.

Suffice it to say we will not return. The location of the property is beautiful, convenient to town and a real plus, but the inability to trust that reservations will be appropriately handled and dealing with an innkeeper who is less than amenable and borders on rude completely negates the pluses of this property.
