We booked through an online booking service and upon arrival were surprised with a smoking room. Due to a local university's homecoming celebration, the hotel claimed to have no other options. To their credit, they sent me to the room with an aerosol can of smoke smell killer. We sprayed the room down and it seemed to remove the worst of the smell. All was okay until we found a used washcloth dried and hard hanging over the shower rod. As we stared at the washcloth, we noticed strange amber colored splotches all over the ceiling. They were sticky to the touch. Ugh. I took photos with my phone and shares them with the front desk upon checkout. The fiftysomething woman at the front desk just blinked at me and didn't try to makings right. So I guess you can take your chances, but it's worth a few extra dollars to stay at one of the many other hotels in the area. And not bathe surrounded by someone else's filth.
This hotel is nestled in a beautiful area in a quaint little town. It has easy access to many tourist attractions and is a very nice property. Everything was clean, quiet and comfortable. The desk staff was courteous and helpful and the breakfast had a good variety including several hot items. My children loved the indoor heated pool. We had a small maintenance problem with the bathroom but it was fixed before we returned from sight-seeing the first day. For the cost, I was very pleasantly surprised at this hotel.
This was our first visit to Blowing Rock. It's such a beautiful area, I wish we would've stayed longer. The hotel was very modern, welcoming entrance and lounge area. The rooms were just as nice with soft towels and sheets...and several pillows labeled as "soft" or "firm". Very quiet rooms, too. I plan to visit the area again and will definitely stay at this Holiday Inn Express.
I recently stayed at this hotel for 3 days on a family vacation. I was disappointed with the customer service and room. I never once in 3 days had someone say hello or good afternoon. The staff just wasn't friendly. I was also disappointed in our room. There was mold around the tub caulk, a light in the ceiling of the bathroom was out for our entire 3 day visit, the condensate from the a/c was leaking on the carpet and missing the cover for the controls, shower fixture not caulked to wall, doors missing from returns on swimming pool, and after our second day visit the sheets were not changed as requested in our room.
