“1902 Turnpike House B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

We loved our two-day stay at the 1902 Turnpike House B&B. We were attending the Grandfather Mountain Highland Game and the inn was convenient to the venue. It is a lovely home in the mountains where the weather was perfect for sitting outside on the porch in the evening admiring the lovely flowers and the variety of birds visiting the feeders. Breakfast was elegant and tasty. The hosts, Paul and Cindy, were very friendly and welcoming. We recommend it.

“One great B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

We have stayed in lots of B&Bs, and we think that there is none better than the 1902 Turnpike House. Cindy and Paul are gracious and accommodating hosts. The setting is beautiful, the rooms are extremely comfortable, and the breakfasts are superb. (The cookies that are always available in the dining room will remind you of the wonderful treats that your grandma used to make for you!) You won't be disappointed if you stay here. Easy access to outstanding restaurants and shops in nearby Banner Elk, Blowing Rock, and Boone. Nature lovers can hike the many nearby trails or visit Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls.

1902 Turnpike House is the only B&B we visit in Banner Elk. Paul and Cindy became friends on our first visit and have always treated us a honored guests. The rooms are quite comfortable and well appointed, the breakfast's are ample and elegant, and we highly recommend 1902 House to anyone wanting to be pampered.

“Great place for mini ski vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

This was a lovely way to spend a couple of days in the NC ski country. The inn keepers, Paul and Cindy, were most accommodating, friendly and informative about the area. The cookies - available almost anytime - were yummy, as were the two breakfasts. Paul goes all out on those! Our room was comfortable too. And the 1902 Turnpike House is convenient to both Beech and Sugar Mountain. If you like B&B's, I recommend it highly. we'll stay there again when we're in the area.

“I wouldn't stay anywhere else!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We have been staying at the Turnpike House for 10 years now. We cut our Christmas tree in Banner Elk every December and look forward to our stay here. We enjoy it so much that we can sometimes find other reasons to escape to the mountains for a long weekend getaway to see Paul and Cindy (the owners).
Paul is a gourmet chef and his breakfasts are unbelievable!! I can't decide if I like his homeade Quiche Lorraine with mushroom sauce, blueberry pecan french toast with homeade blueberry syrup, or stuffed french toast with a homeade orange sauce the best. The endless bowl of homeade cookies, accompanied by homeade apple cider (in the winter), are just an added treat to the whole weekend.
Cindy always has the house decorated for the different seasons which makes the house feel like a home and puts you in the spirit of the holidays.
Paul and Cindy are the epitome of fantastic hosts, and we consider them like family. They have always been more than accomodating and helpful in booking our reservations, treating us fairly in room selection and price, and playing concierge to the great attractions of the area.
