We have been staying at the Turnpike House for 10 years now. We cut our Christmas tree in Banner Elk every December and look forward to our stay here. We enjoy it so much that we can sometimes find other reasons to escape to the mountains for a long weekend getaway to see Paul and Cindy (the owners).
Paul is a gourmet chef and his breakfasts are unbelievable!! I can't decide if I like his homeade Quiche Lorraine with mushroom sauce, blueberry pecan french toast with homeade blueberry syrup, or stuffed french toast with a homeade orange sauce the best. The endless bowl of homeade cookies, accompanied by homeade apple cider (in the winter), are just an added treat to the whole weekend.
Cindy always has the house decorated for the different seasons which makes the house feel like a home and puts you in the spirit of the holidays.
Paul and Cindy are the epitome of fantastic hosts, and we consider them like family. They have always been more than accomodating and helpful in booking our reservations, treating us fairly in room selection and price, and playing concierge to the great attractions of the area.
