My wife and i have stayed at this hotel regularly do to it location to our favourite pub. Every time we go the hotel has improved. It is an older hotel that, when we started going was an Econo Lodge, but has been steadily improving. I find the front desk friendly and inviting, the halls are a tad dark and the rooms can be hit and miss. I always ask to see the room first and have not been given a tired room in some time, however, on our latest visit my wife could not get the shower to work, I had no problem. The breakfast nook could use a bit more tidying however we were there just as it closes at 9:30 am On a previous visit I was put off by the 10:30 call reminding me of the 11am checkout! This did not happen on this trip. There also seem to be a limited number of smoke free rooms with large beds and had to settle for a smoking room. I will be back again as long as the price does not go up any more as there are plenty of options at a lower price.

I read alot of reviews and I know it was a 50/50 chance but i decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. I dont know what renovations where done, but the lobby was very retro. We booked a non smoking room and the only thing dividing them from the smoking was a glass door. Once in the room I went to check the mattress for bugs (as mention by previous reviewers)and found burn holes on the comforter, curtains and large stains on the recyliner. I had to put a plastic sheet on the bed, to give me a peace of mind- which it did not. The parkinglot was poorly lit and top that off the room was disgusting and needed a good scrub. Would not reccomend this to my worse enemy.

I have always been a supporter of this well situated motel for over 20 years. We didn't book in advance because it was mid-week and we were sure that there would be vacancies. We did however check for rates and availability before arriving. The rate quoted was $73.59, up a little from previous stays.
On arrival we were pleased to see an almost empty parking lot. We went to the counter and asked for a room. $99 per night we were offered. I told the clerk that we had checked the S8 website a few hours earlier and that we could have booked on-line for $25 cheaper. His attitude was - well you should have then.
I was tired from driving so we just said to hell with it and paid the asking rate but what we should have done was gone to a pay phone and booked directly with S8 and then gone back in and watch his smug smile shrivel up.
They are trying to spruce the place up a little, they were installing new carpet in the hallways when we were there and the strong curry odor was not nearly as strong as on previous visits. Still, this hotel is good value at the $70 range but no more than that.

There was a slight smell of disinfectant in the lobby when we arrived, which suggest a recently cleaned environment. Our room was excellent and we couldn't have been happier. Very reasonably priced, we definitely would go back in a heartbeat.
