“This Hotel is a Little Dated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I stayed at the Renaissance Westchester Hotel on a recent business trip to Purchase.
The hotel looks as if it could really use an update. It is a 3 star hotel that seems to have given
up aspirations of anything better. For an overnight business trip, the hotel is fine. I'd hate to pay a lot to stay here on a my time.
My companions who tried the food said it was very good. If you are here you might give the restaurants a try.
Service seems to be non-existent. No bellmen or other staff was visible after I passed the front desk.
My only real complaint was the air-conditioner/heater. I set the temp to 68 and in the middle night I woke up in a sweat. The outside temp was about 40F. One of my companions had the same problem in his room, so it may be a common problem.
The hotel does have a weird setup. It's a long walk from the front desk to the rooms. You walk down an open area then turn into a walkway to the building with guest rooms. Not a big deal for most people, but definitely odd.

“Great Place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel. When I entered the lobby I wasn't very impressed, I thought it was tiny and blah...After checking in I was told to drive around to the back where I could find my room. That's when i thought I was going to find the back of a modified motel. Needless to say, I could not have been more wrong about either.

From the entry I was impressed. The large corridors lead to a beautiful, large, well appointed, clean, modern room with a large flat screen TV and down fill comforters. And, once I went to the Fire Fox lounge for free internet...WOW, I found the rest of the lobby.

While I didn't use the indoor pool or sauna, I was told the water was great and the pool was clean. I did use the gym and except for the first day when I broke a sweat by just walking in, it was ideal for an away workout session.

So, why not 5 stars? It's because I stayed in room 211. My first night was difficult. I was chilly, despite turning up the heat to over 82 degrees and the noise coming from the unit made it hard to focus on anything other than the that...the noise. The following day I sat in the room cold until I could not stand it anymore and once I climbed up to find that the noisy unit was putting out cool air, I called for help.

Within minutes maintenance was at my door. That's when I learned they had recently replaced the hotels HVAC. My unit was not working and could not be immediately fix. I was moved to another room. In this room the heat was working and low and behold, it was quiet. I wasted a good night away if only I had known.

I did have a meal at the Fire Fox and except being a little pricey, the service was great and the food was pretty good.

I see this as an ideal location for events or just a great getaway for the family or a couple.

Just stay away from room 211 if you want a comfortable good night's sleep. And the Aveda products are a winner.

Room Tip: Stay away from room 211

“A Dated Three Star Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I returned to the Renaissance after many wonderful memories of great business stays including business meetings from five years past. At arrival, I found the lobby still had an elegant hotel feel, but was lacking bell staff at the front entrance, and the hotel store was no longer there. I requested a recently renovated room and was told that all the rooms are the same. What I found was a tired and worn room, lampshades and curtains with holes in them, a clean but dirty looking bathroom with discolored and cracked tiles and grout, and cheap plastic accessories. Changed rooms and , exactly the same, except for holes in the lampshades. The towels were old and although the bed linens were fine, the mattress was old and lumpy. All this combined with a friendly, but somber, inattentive staff that made my stay at the Renaissance hotel unpleasant, and not a fun place to stay. Also they charge 4+ Star rates plus WIFI even for Marriott Members. In any event, the owners should be ashamed for taking what was a local institution and destination of elegance and fine dining and driving it into the ground as they have. Even the pool area is mildew central. Maybe I will start a "Save The Renaissance" Fund.

Room Tip: There is no bell staff, so be prepared. At check-in, I requested an updated or renovated room, the f...

“Good location once you find it....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

This is a nice business hotel. But it is extremely difficult to find and easy to miss. There is one little side road off an exit from the highway and if you miss it there are no other ways in. Probably the worst entrance to a hotel I have ever seen. But now that I know where it is I stay there whenever i'm in white plains, about twice a year.

It is showing signs of age. This time the hot water faucet handle came off on the sink, but seemed like it had been that way a while. (if youre reading this Renaissance, it's room 314)

The exercise facility is good but for a place like this should be nicer. The 24 hr access is appreciated.

The room service was excellent. Right on time and just the way I ordered.

Room Tip: the rooms are a hike from the main lobby. Nice scenic views and walkway but I would not recommend to...

“Wonderfully quiet room for a great nights rest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We had a wonderful quiet room with the best drapes (black-out lined) that allowed us to sleep in until 8:30 am without the sunshine getting us up. We were in Westchester for a large event and everyone at this Hotel was very nice and made it a very enjoyable visit. Our room was on the 4th floor and I found the king sized bed to be very comfortable for our 3 nights. It had a modern white duvet comforter and 4 great pillows. We recieved a very good rate and I was so impressed with the Hotel that I would stay again. The lobby has been updated and they have a very enjoyable bar with couches and chairs for seating and it serves tasty food late in the evening. There are good signs to the Hotel as it is up the road from the Interstate and you go beyond the USTA offices - its in a peaceful country setting with trees. It helps to have a GPS as several of the roads are one way in the area into and from White Plains. We parked in the back parking lot and used the luggage trolley which made it very easy as the back door entry is at 2nd Floor level.

Room Tip: Rooms that over look the connecting walkway & woods are very quiet. We enjoyed being on the 4th...
